MSI and ASUS are the leading name in gaming laptops. Stay away from alienware, dell, and hp. The best option I found was this http://www.amazon.com/Computer-Corp-GE60-2OE-003US-9S7-16GC11-003/dp/B00CU9GKTO/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1377384210&sr=1-1 It has a fast hard drive, the perfect ram for what you need, a amazing graphics card, and a top notch processor. It about 200 over your budget but this will be playing games on ultra-high.
Also an added note, the back lit keyboard is a great feature, nothing is more annoying then trying to find a key in the dark.

1k top tier can play games at solid 60fps on high end graphics.
Right now I think the best deal for you is to get an MSI GE60. It has a quad-core i7, 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD, a 15.6" 1080p display, and an Nvidia GTX 765M.
It's on sale for $999 right now, and would have no problem with any game you threw at it.
It also has a backlit Steelseries keyboard, premium audio, multi-display support, and a Killer NIC.
I trust MSI products. My MSI video card has gone through some terrible hell that I put it through (entire thing was plugged up with dust/dog hair and I ran it like that for 6 months before noticing the temps), and it works perfect to this day. But this is the best bang for the buck now in this category due to the sale.
We're a little hesitant in recommending this usually, but since you care about lightweight/sleekness compared to performance, take a look at the MSI GE60. It has an i7 4700MQ, 8GB ram, 750GB 7200RPM, GTX 765M GPU, 15.6" 1920x1080 screen. The battery life is only 3 hours.
The major reservation we have about this particular model is the tendency to get hot while gaming. If you're OK with that, it's a good choice. If you're OK with a 1600x900 14" screen, then the GE40 has around 7 hours of battery life.
If you're OK with sacrificing power, the Asus N550JV is a good choice. It has an i7 4700HQ, 8GB ram, 1TB HDD, GT 750M and a 1080p 15.6" touchscreen with 5 hours of battery life. It weighs 5.7 pounds, though.
Laptop. No external monitor. Perhaps that's the problem...
Here are the specs, if it matters.
Okay, I hunted and narrowed it to these two:

Still think the Lenovo is the best bet? :)
Thank you, by the way.
MSI makes some great laptops at different price ranges and features. Lemme pull up a few.
EDIT: Here are some options.
Have you considered a MSIGE60. It isn't that bulky for a gaming laptop. http://www.amazon.com/MSI-Series-GE60-2OE-003US-15-6-Inch/dp/B00CU9GKTO
