I think you're a bit too concerned about that guy's reviews.
He mentions that they measure bad. Well, yeah. Of course they do. They can't pack in all of those features for that cheap and in that small of a device and expect it to sound good.
However, I wouldn't worry about it. If you need something small, there isn't much you can do. The next step up from those is a NAD D3020 or PS Audio Sprout 100, which are both a considerable amount of money more.
However, if you have those Elacs and have the money to get something more expensive, definitely do that. If you need something small, the NAD would be great. If you can fit something bigger, maybe something like this NAD would be good.
Those Elacs scale extremely well. The difference between the sound on a $100 amp and $1000 amp is crazy on them. That's probably the reason PS Audio sells them with their Sprout. Those speakers sound fantastic when you pair them with a good amp.
