If it can support 60hz input, it can do active 3d. Any device that outputs the 60hz signal (30hz per eye) can use an external set of glasses to view 3d.

It is moronic to pretend this technology must be built into the display to work. It was originally external to all tvs before tvs started building it in because it was a cheap feature to add.
Passive 3d is the quality 3d that requires a coating on the screen. This is something that you must buy a tv that has it or you can never get it. Active 3d can be added to any display that accepts a 60hz input or higher.
