It works great and I've had no issues with it.
I bought this one about two months ago, and still going strong. I prefer being able to keep one charged while I play the other. I play for about 3-4 hours a night and have to swap them about every 2-3 days, always having one on the ready.

Comes with 2 batteries and a long charge cable. Bought at Walmart for $20.
I use a nyko plug and charge kit for 360 as well and both work great.
If you are referring to the 3rd party Play and charge kits like this I am not familiar with any that come with different colored backs.
But if you get one like this or an official one like this You just use the same battery cover the controller comes with.
Heads up I believe only the official batteries charge using the controllers USB port. Both of those 3rd party controllers need to be charged separately, but don't hold me to that.
