    Features:
  • ADVANCED OPTICS: Featuring an optimized design, this lens uses a series of 6 optical glass elements (one SD super-low dispersion) in 5 groups to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the aperture range. A high definition anti-reflective coating suppresses lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity.
  • SUPER ZOOM: 650-1300mm or 1300-2600mm with the 2x converter, this lens is not only a superb long range choice, but also performs well in a variety of scenes from sports and surveillance to lunar shots.
  • SOLID CONSTRUCTION: Full metal body and rear mount allow this lens to withstand wear and tear much better than plastic lenses while commanding a rugged, solid feel when using.
  • MANUAL FOCUSING: This lens has preset f-stops that correspond with the focal length at which you are shooting. An index for distance and diaphragm scale is inscribed on the lens barrel to coordinate focal length and aperture.
  • COMPATIBILITY: Can be used on all Nikon APS-C and full frame cameras including D7500, D7200, D7100, D5600, D5500, D5300, D5200, D5100, D5000, D3400, D3300, D3200, D3100. D3000, Df, D5, D4, D3, D850, D810, D800, D750, D700, D610, D500, D90, D60 and D40.

The number in the camera name is the amount of blurriness of the picture. The D3000 has 3000 unit of blurriness, and the D5 has 5 units of blurriness. Each millimeters remove one unit of blurriness. Your friend has 5-50=-45 units of blurriness, or 45 unit of sharpness. If you buy this and another Opteka 2X teleconverter, you will get 3000-2600x2=-2200 unit of blurriness, or 2200 unit of sharpness. You will have 2155 more unit of sharpness than your friend. Your pictures will be crisp and sharp.

Pretty much what lacesout78 said. It's more about the lens then the camera. For wildlife you want a good telephoto lens, and for the close up stuff you'll want a macro lens.'

There are some telephoto macro lenses - might be worth getting that since it'll do both. Although i think the longest telephoto macro is 160mm, which is on the low end for wildlife.

On the other hand, if you get a separate telephoto and macro lens you can get some pretty outstanding shots.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RPEZK18 Thats a 650-2600mm lens. It's completely manual though. I only just recently got it and haven't had a lot of time to test it, but for under $200 i thought it would be worth trying.

And then there's https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1399604-REG/venus_optics_ve2528sfe_laowa_25mm_f_2_8_2_5_5x.html which is a 2.5 5.0x macro lens - it'll really let you get very close up details, also all manual. That'll cost $400.

You could get a smaller telephoto that's not all manual like the one laces suggested. If you are just starting out, it's probably a better option since it'll be easier to handle, and less complicated to operate.
