You need singlemode optics in the switch interfaces to use singlemode cable. Multimode optics in the switch interfaces with singlemode cables will lose about 20db when you have a 50um MM core connected to a 10um SM core and it won't work past 10s or 100s of meters. The only exception is LRM which is a special case where you have singlemode over multimode cable by only using one mode in the multimode cable to reduce dispersion from different modes.
If you get 1g LR optics in those 1g SFP ports, it will work fine with that cable unless the cable is a lot longer than 1km. Just because the locations are 1km apart does not mean the fiber does not take some crazy path around the city between them.
