Artificial sweeteners are fine in moderation.

ON Gold Standard is available in a "Natural" form, however, for people like you that may want to avoid them:

My mom actually can't drink anything with artificial sweeteners because they give her BAD migraines. It cost a little more than the regular ON but we buy this:

We buy the chocolate flavor and we both love it. It's absolutely awful in water though, you have to mix it in milk every time. Also, if you BLEND it with milk (I sometimes add a tablespoon of plain sugar too) it froths the milk up and tastes exactly like a chocolate milkshake.

I've tried unflavored whey and couldn't drink it without gagging. I don't recommend it.

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard natural vanilla whey. Doesn't use any artificial flavors/sweeteners/colors and tastes pretty good, especially as part of a smoothie.

I get Optimum Nutrition 5 lb Naturally Flavored Whey Powders. Short ingredient list and it doesn't break the bank too bad.

Are you talking about this one?: http://www.amazon.com/Optimum-Nutrition-Standard-Naturally-Chocolate/dp/B00QQA0GSY

This one is sweetened with stevia, which is better for you than sucralose

Protein shake smoothie: milk, frozen fruit, chocolate chips, protein shake, and if you want to make it extra dense: melt some coconut oil and add that right before blending. Eat it over 1/2 hour or so.

Incidentally, coconut oil is a fat that generally helps for acid reflux, and doesn't give you as much of the lethargic feeling. You can mix coconut oil in anything sweet, and it makes chicken/pork taste amazing. Any time you could use butter, mayo, vegetable oil, or melted cream cheese, you can replace with coconut oil.
