We have not had good luck with the generic adapters.

Try a name brand like Plugable or Cable Matters who can offer better support. Here is an example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G5OAT88 Do check the specs carefully because many adapters will only display an image on one monitor connection at a time.

To simplify the approach, it may be easier to get two separate adapters.

  1. a USB-C -> HDMI adapter
  2. a separate USB 3.0 -> VGA adapter

    That way you can opt for two different images on VGA vs HDMI for maximum flexibility - super handy for PowerPoint and other applications that handle multiple monitors natively - but this adds to the cost.

    Yet another option is to get a simple docking station that has all the ports you need for keyboards/mice, printers, etc. for not much more money. Please see the guide.

    Cheers,

    Dan

    P.S. are you using a Projector by chance? If so what brand?
