> I am confused as well by the fact that it isn't at least louder than the computer by itself! Hopefully someone who knows more will chime in as to whether it is common for a pc sound card to drive high impedance headphones better than a dedicated headphone amp
Product is made by Behringer and costs about 75% less than a headphone amp from say Presonus. It might just be a faulty product, we don't know if it works at all yet.
As to whether or not it's common - well some modern 'gaming' sound cards are a bit higher quality than back in the day so it's certainly possible but if this was like a standard business or budget class PC with built in sound I don't think so.
