I had a metatarsal fracture a few years back and was told that whatever I do if I keep running I have to wear those plantar fasciitis insoles. I had custom made ones but these from amazon cost pennies in comparison and are just as good.

I would recommend having insoles for this. The people who tell you you don't need them are people who haven't had any problems with their feet (yet). It's a cheap add on to your running gear and prevents injury, so why not.

Keeping in mind that many shoes have these inner arches in-built. If so, you won't need an extra one.

Shoes with inbuilt arches haven't worked for me either as they tend to hit in the wrong spot, which causes even more pain and discomfort. I think it may have something to do with foot shape.

My doctor recommended store-bought hard insoles for me rather than the soft gel type. I just buy mine off of amazon and cut to size.

They help provide the structure that my foot needs but does not have. Prior to getting them my feet would hurt horribly at random intervals despite wearing good quality shoes. At times it would prevent me from walking for a few days, and it would feel like my foot was being broken in half. With orthotics, my foot falls on the ground as it's supposed to, so it has stopped hurting over time. I've experienced zero foot pain in the couple of years since I started wearing the orthotics religiously.

In larger shoes, like sneakers and chunky boots, I wear full ones like these.

In pumps or sleeker boots, I wear the partial ones like these.

I have a couple of pairs of each kind and switch them around to whatever pair of shoes I wear that day, taking care to alternate daily.
