Reddit mentions of PS3 500 GB Gran Turismo 5 Legacy Bundle

This is the best bundle I've found so far.

Playstation 3 slim 500gb, Infamous 2, Gran Turismo 5, and 30 days of Playstation plus.

On Playstation Plus, Uncharted 3, XCOM, Little Big Planet Karting, and Saint's Row 3 are currently on offer. Semi-free, as long as you have PS+ active.

$299 with 2 "permanent" games, with the option to access a huge exclusive and a few other "would be nice" games for 30 days... unless you extend PS+.


The god of war bundle is also pretty nice if you're into that sort of game. I suppose I could argue it's a better value since it's technically 4 games in-box, but it's just not the same variety as the bundle I linked earlier.

I would avoid the Uncharted 3 bundle until it's no longer offered on PS+, or if you don't want the PS+ version of UC3.

IMO you should try and avoid a Super Slim model. It's still possible for you to buy a brand new Slim model PS3. The old Fat ones are just that, old, so reliability is an issue and considering that income is slower for you (assumption) I'd avoid it.

The Super Slim cannot stand on it's side, and it looks pretty awful. I do own one but because I got a deal at Gamestop for trade-ins and my old Slim model I gave to my brother when he left for Uni. The Slim has a great build quality, sleek disc loading tray and is quiet and long lasting; I've had the 320GB since release (3 years?) and it's running smoothly. However, the Super Slim model is noticeably louder.

Now, for size. 160GB models are still in stock at some retailers (Futureshop (CAN)/ Best Buy has had sales for $150), and usually they're on sale since this is an older model that they're pushing out for the new Super Slim model. If you need more hard drive space you can buy another and install it yourself (google for help regarding this matter).

As for games, FAQ has some listed but search game review websites for your preference. Anyone here will just list the typical games that everyone pushes.

Oh, and get PS+ (I'm sure a BNIB PS3 you buy will be bundled with at least 30 days).

If you want PS+ with it, absolutely. And you should, since PS+ rotates through some of the best games in the PS3's huge back catalog and offers them for free. I've also found it great for games I wouldn't normally risk the money on that I've turned out to love.

Since you get more out of PS+ the longer you have it, if it interests you, now is the time to get it. The free games you will get between now and any possible PS3 price drop will more than cover the difference.

If you're not interested in PS+, then it comes down to whether it's worth it to you personally to wait for a few months to save $50-100.

I would suggest one of these models, depending on which games interest you. Having a 500gb drive is a big advantage to these models, and the other bundle game (Uncharted 3) has a smaller hard drive... and the game is free on PS+ right now.
