Thiel CS3.6's can be had for $1200ish used, add a big solid state amp, maybe a Carver A55x for $600, a Pure i-20 or one of these other options, add a preamp of some sort (Nakamichi CA-5's are under $200 used), and you're under budget.
If you had to go new, here's a list of speakers under 2 grand. Also the Polk RTi-A9's can be had for $1500/pr. If it were me, I'd just browse Craigslist and Audiogon until the best speaker I could afford showed up. I wound up with Klipsch RF-7's for $600 and a Carver A760X for $700.
Considering a Pure i20 iPod dock for an iPod Classic.
Is this definitely, audibly better than just using Line Out to my amp?
