If you are only after the aesthetics guys, I would recommend looking into Q Acoustics' speakers.

Q Acoustics 3010(Amazon UK link).

Would recommend looking into the 2010's and 2020's as well. The day I find a good deal on them I will definitely go in for the kill and buy them.

EDIT: As user Jailsopp pointed out, these are passive speakers, so you need an amp to run them.

Hey everyone, I have 2 different purchases I'm looking for some help with.

  1. A subwoofer for my PC audio setup. I currently have an SMSL AD18 hooked up to a pair of Q Acoustics 3010 compact bookshelf speakers. I'm looking for a sub to pair with this setup, which I use primarily for music and the occasional TV show, movie, or video game. Music is the primary use case, and I listen to rap/hip-hop and techno the most, but listen to a pretty broad variety of music that isn't country. Budget here I'd like to stay around $300, but can go higher if the difference is compelling enough.
  2. A TV or home theater setup. This would be primarily for movies, couch gaming, and TV shows. Music would be a secondary use for this, and bluetooth input support would be a "nice to have" for the music use case. I'd like to keep the budget under $800 but am again willing to go higher if the difference is compelling enough. There is currently no hardware for this setup, so it's a blank canvas on the audio front.

    Thanks for your help!

I'm near Philadelphia and my price range is $500-$650. I'm hoping to make sure my beginner setup will work before I pull the trigger(s). Thanks in advance!

Planning to buy the below:

Fluance RT81 - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F2EXIFM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A1WPEQCN6WJKZG&psc=1

Yamaha R-S202BL Stereo Receiver - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078T9R55D/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Q Acoustics 3010 - https://www.amazon.com/Acoustics-Compact-Bookshelf-Speakers-Graphite/dp/B00TR1QOEY/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Q%2BACOUSTICS%2B3010&qid=1554523940&s=gateway&sr=8-1&th=1

I'm wondering if there's that big of a difference between the sound I could get from the Yamaha amp verses something like this Lepy (https://www.amazon.com/Lepy-LP-2024A-HA-LP-2024A-Stereo-Amplifier/dp/B00ULRFQ1A/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=lepy&qid=1554556598&s=gateway&sr=8-3)

Also, if the Yamaha amp has an output of 100w and the speakers recommended power is 15w-75w, does this make them incompatible?

Thanks again.

For pairing with a subwoofer that I already own (SVS PB-1000), which of the following four options would be great/preferred/the bestest and why?

They will be used on a desk. Amplifier not yet bought.

Presume you dont think KEF are that good then? the reviews on those Q Acoustics look pretty good. At £250 a pair theyre out of my price range.

The older 3010 version is only £100 on amazon - presume they're decent.

Also is it alright to mix and match speakers like that? having differernt front left and right speakers to the rest?

Here are some options not previously mentioned.

  1. Boston Acoustic CS26 $105ea and the CS225 center $200 - $410 total Great choice for a good overall sound.

  2. Polk S10 $200 & S30 center $230 - $430 Total These are getting favorable reviews and I was pretty impressed when I heard them.

  3. Q Acoustics 3010 $200 & 3090c center $180 - $380 Total These get very good reviews too worth a look.

  4. BIC DV64 $125ea & a BIC DV62CLRS center $115 - $365 total This will get you towers for the fronts so you don't have to mess with stands.
