I got this antenna and it works just fine: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B001GGAIG8 My TV Fool

If you have Netflix there isn't a lot of need for Prime unless you also want the other perks (shipping, Kindle Lending, etc). I get a lot more out of Netflix for streaming services than I do out of Amazon but since I have Prime already it's a nice options to "also have". You can still use the Amazon Instant Streaming to rent videos and they have a pretty large library (I typically use them or the built in M-GO store on my Roku device) for movies that aren't available on streaming subscription services. Most streaming devices have some store or another for renting digitally though so your smartTV probably has one too.

Hulu is only worth it if you really want those shows that are available there and don't mind the commercials or the odd rules for different show availability. I don't particular care for it and I can wait until those same shows end up on Netflix (or I download them) but they do carry some things that you can't stream any other way.

If you have a TV that already has smart channels it isn't very necessary to buy a unique device like a Roku or AppleTV but an advantage of those devices is it's easy to swap them around or even travel with them and they tend to stay updated better.

Roku offers some basic file playback (plug in a USB and it'll play common MP4 and MKV formats (some audio caveats there)). Best case you files play without any effort (most of mine do). Worse case you learn how to convert video files using the many tutorials around.

You might hear about Plex for streaming content from a computer - and it's a very good tool - but for some people it might be overkill and takes some investiture of learning. There are different levels of handling local files and your smart TV might already support playback via USB so definitely check that before getting to far invested in file playback.

Another device that might be worth checking is SimpleTV - it is subscription based and acts as a DVR and channel guide for live TV broadcasts and it even streams to other devices (Roku, Chromecast, phones, etc). There are a few different devices like it.

Sports is tricky but some service providers will let you access WatchESPN with just an internet plan (Epix and a few other streaming "channels" as well).

Those are some thoughts.
