/u/fatexploit - if you can, send the NTG4 back and trade it for the NTG4 "plus" (which is actually [on sale right now for less than the price of the NTG4] (https://www.amazon.com/Rode-NTG4-PLUS-Shotgun-Microphone/dp/B00TV90BF0//ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20)).

The plus model has a USB rechargeable internal battery, which will solve your problem.

If that's not possible, yes, you should get a portable external phantom power supply. The Mackie that /u/provideocreator recommended looks like a good option.

Hope this is helpful and good luck!

It's the microphone question again.

I'm currently running a cheap BM-800 into a Behringer Q802USB to my computer, and I'd like to replace the microphone with something that will give me a bassier and warmer sound.

I will be recording mostly male voices, doing voiceover or audiobook recording in a non-soundproofed environment- I've been looking at shotgun microphones to cut out some of the floor noise from the environment.

My budget would be around $300-400 USD. I've looked at:

Azden SMX-30

Rode NTG4+

Sennheiser MKE 600

AT875R

But wanted some other opinions before jumping the gun.

For business videos, audio quality is most important. What mic do you use in the H5?

I'd highly recommend a good mic and mount. This Rode NTG4+ or similar shotgun mic and a good shock mount like this.

Trust me, perceived quality skyrockets when you have good audio quality. Everybody appreciates good audio quality, while few notice good videography. This will help your customers feel they are getting high quality videos.
