After years of extensive travel with hard sided luggage for the whole family, have never had any break. I have the samsonite "s'cure" carryon and swear by it. Although hard sided luggage is currently popular, 99% of it is cheap and useless since it still has zippers. This luggage has a secure and waterproof o- ring with a proper tsa lock. It is also very light at 3 km or 6.6 lbs. Could last for 30 years or more. Oh and don't believe the silly claims that wheels take up 30 to 40 % of the luggage capacity. I love the protection it provides to electronics, as well as the security from wandering fingers everywhere including hotel rooms.
