Careful there.

The ST4000NC001 you linked to at Amazon may be new. Difficult to know for certain. Q&A section and reviews both do mention drives which are already expired or have no manufacturer warranty. So warranty may be handled directly by Worldwide Product Importer.

The ST4000NC001 linked in the OP most likely is not new. It's sold by goHardDrive, on Newegg. A read through the Newegg reviews seems to indicate that goHardDrive provides the 3 year warranty - again, not Seagate.

This is a link to the equivalent drive on Amazon, also sold there by goHardDrive.

I do not have any experience with Worldwide Product Importer, so I can't comment on their product quality or their customer service.

I have purchased quite a few drives from goHardDrive, mostly via their eBay and Amazon sales channels. Enough purchases that I have had an issues with a few drives.

Although I do fully admit my standards may be higher than the average customer. I mean, outside of my compatriots over at DataHoarder, most customers would think multiple SMART checks, full surface scans, badblock checks, etc running 24/7 for a period of stress testing spanning anywhere from 5 to 10 days would be overkill, right?

I digress.

The times I've had issues with drives from goHardDrive, the customer service has been pretty darn good. goHardDrive stands behind their drives and their warranties. I just state the issue. Within 24 hours I get a prepaid return label. Within 24 to 48 hour of the return arriving, a replacement is shipped out.

Theses days, I usually purchase larger TB shuckable externals because the cost/TB is more economical. But I do still purchase smaller drives from goHardDrive as a second or third option after larger TB shuckable externals.
