Reddit mentions of Self-Made Man

There's a pretty fascinating book called Self Made Man about a woman playing a man for a year, and it includes a chapter on her online dating experiences.

Now, one of the reasons I thought the book could have been even more interesting is that the author's a lesbian, meaning that her dating-women-as-a-men is not really 100% 'viewing the other side for once'. But her reflections and experiences are still extremely interesting.

(I liked the chapters on the bowling nights and the online dating most - the other chapters are about situations and people that are so far out there that it's kinda hard to relate to)

Personally love the stuff that has come out of this gem of a book. Now if only this type of stuff could get more traction in mainstream feminism I could actually start calling myself a feminist again and start caring about the movement again. Until then; it's a lost fucking cause.

Being a man is just a tad bit different and more complicated than a cross-dressing woman. I suggest you read this book. It's really a good one.

Men are irreplaceable. Period. Those articles are interesting and great for discussion, but the fact of the matter is is that women need us just as much as we need them- as a society, culture, in personal relationships. There are deadbeat men everywhere, just like there are deadbeat women. What you should worry about is how you are not going to let that happen to yourself.
