I recommend buying The Venom Saga on DVD. It collects all of the episodes with the symbiote, Venom, and Carnage.
Venom never showed up in the 80's series. OP is most likely referring to the vhs/dvd releases of the 90's animated series. The episodes weren't released as seasons, but like /u/Thatoneguy567576 said, more character arcs. Here is the Venom dvd.
