William Steig's Spinky Sulks is very much like this, and my nomination for a bad-day book.

But I've definitely used Alexander too - I'm a nanny for a 8 year old girl with some minor disabilities that present a lot like aspergers. She can get overwhelmed and exhausted and then frustrated, and I've found this book is a really good tool when she gets in that mood. We agree that she's having a bad day, and read this book in a commiserating, validating way. It helps!
