The easiest thing to do would be to get a DisplayPort to VGA adapter and run both monitors of your GPU.

Something like this I would guess, an active adaptor is more or less an active adaptor... there is not much between them.

I don't have a vga monitor or a hdmi/dvi to vga converter to test out how it works, but from plugging it in and out a few times, it seems durable. Can't really tell you for sure without testing if I get an output

If you're really worried about the ports. They make USB to display input converters for vga/hdmi/dvi http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-DisplayPort-Video-Adapter-Converter/dp/B003V4TV8O/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1417203377&sr=1-1&keywords=usb+to+vga+display+adapter

EDIT: nvm on that link. That's a display port not usb adapter. Here's a usb to vga adapter http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Male-Cable-Feet-TK-CU06/dp/B000P24YBY/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1417203808&sr=1-8&keywords=usb+to+vga+adapter

You can put a simple Passive DVI-VGA adapter (The ones that they usually include with the Card) on the DVI-I for one of your VGA monitors but you'll need an Active adapter for either the Displayport or DVI-D to connect the 2nd VGA monitor, something like this or this

edit. fixed 2nd link

I recently had a bunch of issues connecting 3 displays to a tower and found out that sometimes you can only use one port of the same kind, like my gpu had 2 HDMI and 2 DP but I could only use one DP connection and the other two had to use the HDMI ports. If you're using integrated graphics then you'll probably have less ports though, and this shouldn't be the case.

Have you installed the newest drivers for the displays and your pc hardware?

Edit: I just realized you're using vga to displayport cables and I'd bet anything that's your problem. Try to find a DP to VGA adapter, then connect a regular VGA cable to the adapter. One of my attempts was running a HDMI to DP cable and I had the same problem.

First, I mis-red your post - didn't see the VGA part, so don't buy what I linked as it's for DVI. This is one I'd recommend instead.

Aside from that, all I know is that with a properly working adapter, there's nothing special you have to do.

okay so what you need is a displayport/dvi to VGA adapter
dvi to vga,
displayport to vga.
even though there is a pretty big price difference, either will work just fine, just giving you options. you will plug one end of the adapter into the card and the cord goes from the other end to the monitor. Then it should work with the monitor, and will be able to dual screen or mirror screen with the monitor and TV if you wish.

you cant do that. using a DVI-I to VGA adapter still counts as VGA.

cant use two VGA on new graphics cards.

you need an HDMI to VGA active converter. or DVI-D to VGA active converter. or Display port to VGA active converter.

Are you using a DVI-I to VGA converter or adapter? There is a big difference.

DVI-I only receives a digital signal, if you have a DVI to VGA adapter hooked to a DVI-I cable then nothing will work, so to use a VGA you need a DVI-D to VGA adapter, and a VGA cable. The adapter plugs directly into the GPU while the VGA cable connects to that.

A lot of places sell them as DVI-I adapters, but that is just mislabeling. If all else fails, assuming you have free DisplayPort plugs you could use something like this https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-VGA-Adapter-Active-1080p/dp/B003V4TV8O

Are you using the DisplayPort?

DisplayPort to VGA

My shop sells adapters like these and they work just like the HDMI one does.

EDIT: I see you did post on /r/techsupport and ended up with the same advice.

> /DVI-A ports out?

You can use one of these guys (or another brand): https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-DisplayPort-Video-Adapter-Converter/dp/B003V4TV8O

DVI on the 1080 won't work with VGA, but the DisplayPort ports will. Otherwise, one of these guys isn't too expensive and supports the same drivers as the 1080.

u/bagofwisdom · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

What GPU and adapter are you using? Also, it's possible the Displayport to VGA adapter you're using is defective. It's also likely your card may need an Active Display port to VGA converter

So this is the type of thing I am looking for?

u/Nealon01 · 1 pointr/windows

In my experience (which is admittedly pretty limited), if it doesn't say, and it's less than $10, its usually passive. I've found that if I want to connect more than 3 monitors, any adapters used have to be active (I have no idea what that actually means though). The only thing that's giving me pause here is that you said it was working for you before and the only thing that's changed is the software. This is my best guess, but I wouldn't say I'm confident, and I don't want you to spend $20 on a hunch of mine if it's just going to be a waste of money.

My suggestion would be to buy this adapter, but if you have any other ideas, I'd say try those first. Best of luck!

As long as you get an active adaptor you can use VGA, I think the ones you linked should work. However I'll link one below that I've found on Amazon also.

Not really.

I would assume that if you always us that projector you would eventually get one.
