I’m growing 4 chili peppers in DWC buckets, and I currently have a 150w HPS fixture of the same brand. I think 150w is too small, and Ive had very slow growth. Would the 400w be enough?

I'd take a cutting or two or three from that, and put them all in a coffee cup with some water and a tiny (read 1/10th-ish strength) plant food. Change the water every couple few days and you'll have roots swimming around in your cup within a couple weeks.

You can keep your cuttings in the cup for the entire winter even, avoiding having to deal with dirt and extra pots etc. until spring. Your small cuttings will keep alive with that 60W light (I used a 13W CFL last year).

You can then plant them out next year.

Or do what GrandmaGos says and get more light on it. I'd think a 250 or 400W would work okay if you wanted to get tomatoes on it inside.

So this is pretty much the light I am using. It is probably not the most economical, for upfront cost and energy bills. LEDs weren’t as much a thing then (at least not good ones like you see now), and now that I am growing in my basement it helps keep the temp up. I am interested in LEDs but probably just for supplemental lighting at first. Many of the big crops I see come from HID and it’s treated me well, so sticking with that for now
