First, I would like to ask you how would you rate the quality of the suunto? is it one of those models with a rechargeable battery?

Also, I am surprised they let you take photographs in jewelry/watch shops. It may be just me or something about the way I dress that makes me look suspicios to people in local stores. I always stop to look at watches in the mall but one day I got distracted by engagement rings and then noticed that the lights at that display were some very weird led thing and the security guard quickly approached. The highest end watch and jewelry store in my city has those security doors that can only be opened remotely from inside. I always stop to look at the Rolexes, Mont Blancs and Cartiers because they constantly rotate the stock on (their clearly bulletproof) display. Apparently I am not even allowed inside because whenever I am close, they keep the door closed until I walk away, at least when their employees want to cross the door they make them wait (I must say that this store was victim of a very high profile armed robbery a few years ago, so it somehow makes sense). Maybe I'm just being paranoid.

Anyway...

I do prefer the Citizen for an everyday/informal watch. First, it is solar powered and quartz, meaning you will hardly have to worry about accuracy, winding, service, ruggedness and such. Second, its design is much more modern and unusual. If you choose your Citizen wisely you migh even get a perpetual calendar. Black metal is very manly too and the dial has a very atractive texture, it even features (fake?) diamonds.

Regarding the issue of catching the eye of the ladies I cannot provide much help, unfortunately, and my fashion sense died a decade ago. But the Tissot with the roman numerals, as good as it is, looks more like your grandfather's timepiece. I have heard the ocassional girl comment on men's watches from time to time and they do check those things (and your car). Something that strikes about tha tis that, while browsing the watch section of department stores, I have twice seen a young couple go through it together and the girl comments on how she would like him to get this Swatch. Now, I usually don't have anything against Swatch and do appreciate that their designs are cool and different but that model in particular looks hideous to me and is the last one I would get. I mean, I don't I would wear it even if I got it for free. In case you are interested, both times the couple seemed at least middle class or slightly higher. The woman was above average in looks and took good care of her appearance, the kind of girl you would assume has a sense for fashion. The man was slightly overweigh but evidently was aware of his wardrobe and tried to look sharp, but did not dress particularly formal or anything.

I would take your room mates advice, I would even take her shopping with me.
