This is $220 before taxes after the coupon.

This is a few days old, but I purchased one of these last year

TerraMaster - https://www.amazon.com/TerraMaster-D5-300C-Enclosure-Exclusive-Diskless/dp/B06ZY6DK8N

I had seen many complaints about Mediasonic, then some problems with IcyDock.

This is the one I got. There's a 300 and a 300C, the only difference I believe is the RAID mode you can use (and the official storage capacity, it seems) but I just run each disk individually anyway.

I've been using this Terramaster D5-300c for a couple of years with 8TB drives inside. I've had zero issues, but I don't have the RAID enabled or anything.

It is half the storage, but you get a level of redundancy. RAID is not a backup, but having 2 drives mean if 1 fails you don't have to worry about a failed drive + all your data being loss.

If you don't want to learn a whole new OS and just want something K.I.S.S.

I would look at a NAS with 2 bay or more.

For a NAS I would go with something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/TerraMaster-Transcoding-Personal-Storage-Diskless/dp/B07PWDTBJ6/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=terramaster&qid=1563456843&s=gateway&sr=8-2

Or if you just want it hooked up to one PC, go with this:

https://www.amazon.com/TerraMaster-D5-300C-Enclosure-Exclusive-Diskless/dp/B06ZY6DK8N/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=terramaster&qid=1563456843&s=gateway&sr=8-1

Terramaster is not as well known brand, but has pretty great reviews. I have one, and it has alot of features and is really easy. Synolog is pretty much the go to. Can't go wrong with either.

If you go for a NAS, you can get a RAID setup, but also the NAS can run apps. For example, the Terramaster can host a Plex server, a Simple website, a dropbox sync app, or a bunch of other apps.

Also the RAID you listed was Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt is more expensive, you could probably go with a USB 3. USB 3 can do 5 Gps which might be enough for your needs.
