The Antidote - Happiness for People who Can’t Stand Positive Thinking by Oliver Burkeman... this is an excellent book I can’t recommend enough, it’s written in very much the same spirit as the subtle art... I actually liked this book a bit better

I'm a pessimist, and I really enjoyed The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can't Stand Positive Thinking.

I think you would really benefit from reading The Antidote. It's about finding happiness while rejecting the current "cult of happiness" that's running rampant in self-help books. Among other things, the author examines memento mori, the paradoxical idea that we can become truly happy by reflecting on, rather than trying to endlessly distract ourselves from, the fact that we will eventually die.

This is sort of all-encompassing and not quite what you're looking for, but I really loved The Antidote. It's kind of the anti-self help book.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0080K3G4O/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 this book and stoic philosophy in general has made me have a 180 turn around in overall happyness and contentment.

A great read along these lines: The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can't Stand Positive Thinking I found myself, especially for the first half or so, seeing point after point that applied to dealing with infertility and how I've internalized a lot of my struggle.

> just imagine good things happening to you and they will

The Antidote is a good book to start with if you think that's what stoicism actually is about. It's essentially a response and critique to the very idea of the 'power of positive thinking'.
