Your reading of the novel is pretty weird. The mainstream interpretation is that Dantès' complicated revenge plot ultimately hurt innocents (something he himself realizes), and not only that, it made him into a man unable to experience joy, only vengeful hatred that has sickened his mind. He redeems himself eventually after realizing this, and vows to make amends and again experience the full range of human emotion.
I mean, even the book jacket summary states this explicitly:
>Dumas' novel presents a powerful conflict between good and evil embodied in an epic saga of rich diversity that is complicated by the hero's ultimate discomfort with the hubristic implication of his own actions.
