The book my two professors co-authored at UCCS. Procedural memory is what allowed homo erectus to knap hand axes without the use of language. I can't remember his name, but a professional stone knapper demonstrated how procedural memory and not working memory was involved in the creation of stone axes. They performed MRIs and CAT scans showing which part of the brain was active during their creation. No portion of the frontal lobes activated, only areas of procedural memory showed activity.
