I haven't been here long but many here suggest the Timex Easy Reader as a good first watch.
[EDIT] This is a bit classier IMO but still inexpensive.

I just bought that one in brown and also [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T2N107-Casual-Dress-Strap/dp/B00284C9QY/ref=pd_sbs_watch_3) one in black, they're weightless and pretty casual but very nice for the price point.
