Reddit mentions of Überfluss und Überdruss in unserer Gesellschaft (German Edition)

Up to a certain degree it is true, that they must satisfy needs, in order to make profits. However, this is just a by-product and is therefore not appropriate to satisfy needs, what we can see for example on the phenomenon of "planned obsolescence". I doesn't mean some kind of conspiratorial "killer ship", but just the fact that companies do not focus on durability and reparability, and conscious often install materials that are unsuitable for their usage. Why? For the same reason why they harass us constantly with industry propaganda (aka advertising): We need to consume, so that they can make profits.

The second problem is that not all needs are recognized as such, but only those that are covered with enough money. It so happens that a billion people are permanently hungry, and other order their second private jet, or buy jewelry for her cell phones.

With Erich Fromm, we could say: This consumption creates bad "superfluous abundance" (überflüssiger Überfluss) and thus "disgust" (Überdruss), and not the good "overflowing abundance" (überfließender Überfluss).
