There's very few out there that are UHD compatible.

Here's two that are official UHD drives:

LG BU40N

LG BU50N

Alternatively, you could buy an external USB3 model and just take it out when needed. Although I think this one would only be good for ripping/decrypting since it's not an 'official' UHD drive.

LG BE16NU50

You could also get an external enclosure like the one below and pair it with any of the confirmed UHD compatible 5.25" ODDs.Vantec NST-536S3-BK NexStar DX USB 3.0 External Enclosure

I was on the hunt recently for a slot-loading UHD compatible drive instead and that seems to be non-existent :(

I was thinking of getting rid of my optical drive in my PC and throwing it into an enclosure of some sort.

There's only been on type of enclosure I've found:
https://www.amazon.ca/NexStar-External-Enclosure-Blu-Ray-Drive/dp/B01MRUN0HQ/

At that price, I should just buy an external one.

Just wondering if anyone can suggest something else?

Your best bet is probably to just buy an external drive.

You can get DVD-RW pretty cheap: https://www.amazon.ca/External-Stylish-SDRW-08D2S-U-BLK-AS/dp/B006HUMYCO/

External Blu-ray drives starts around $100: https://www.amazon.ca/Pioneer-Electronics-External-BDR-XD05S-Silver/dp/B00OLZCD5K/

If you already have a blu-ray drive lying around you could save a bit of money by getting a 5.25" enclosure like this but from what I can see there isn't a huge selection and if you don't already have the drive it will be expensive, heavier, and much larger than just buying one of the slim external drives above. The enclosure isn't worth it for DVD even if you have the drive since the external drives are already cheaper than it.

I'm not a fan of the cheap ones. This Vantec is a good choice, but it's not cheap.

There's two connections - data and power.

I have this that's basically an external enclosure for an old internal drives. It has the right connections inside, and connects to the PC over USB and works fine.

Hi everyone,

I have a HP Envy win 7 laptop with no CD Rom drive. I have many cd's to rip. I can hear a difference between FLAC & mp3's/m4a. So with that in mind, these are the products I am buying to rip my cd's.

I will be using EAC. Will I need anything else to install this? Sata cable, etc...
Thanks for the help!

I use the previous generation of these. Works like a champ.

You can buy any internal drive you want and plop it in this enclosure. I use several of them. They work well!

That adapter might not provide enough power, you might need to use something like this.
