Let's start with an amp.

This one from Yamaha would be what you want. Full size receiver with plenty of power and bluetooth for you. It also has a sub out if you think you'll need one some day.

After that, you'll want some stands. Some like this will do the trick.

Just to get it out of the way, speaker cable as well.

Okay, let's talk speakers. I, personally, feel that bookshelf speakers offer more value than tower speakers. Towers generally are just there to get louder. At these prices, there aren't a ton of tower options. I'll throw in an example quick. These Pioneer bookshelf speakers are $130. The towers are $150 each, so $300 for the pair. You're more than doubling the money, and all you get is volume. For $300, you could step up to the Elac Debut B6.2. Once again, for the tower version, $400 each, so $800 total there. And you're not getting better clarity or resolution or anything. You're getting slightly better bass, but for that price you could be getting a subwoofer instead anyways (just checked, 44hz for the bookshelves and 39hz for the towers, which probably won't be super noticeable, and you'd want a subwoofer with either if you wanted to dig deep anyways).

Alright, now that we discussed that, I've got a few options for you. You said your budget is $500, and we've already used $200, so we have $300 to work with.

Those elacs will be first. These will be a very neutral speaker. They have a front port, so you can put them close to a wall without having problems. These have a good amount of very strong bass. They'll also get loud easily without distortion. The drivers in them really are phenomenal.

Wharfedale Diamond 200. First of all, the prettiest speakers on the list. White, and black. These will have a very warm and sweet sound. The bass is boosted just a touch, and the highs are rolled off smoothly. This gives them a very 'easy' sound. If you want to wrap up in a blanket in front of a fireplace and drink hot chocolate while listening to music, get these speakers.

Ascend CBM-170 are a really good option if you think you'll be adding a sub some day. They have a really fast and punchy midrange. The top end is also tipped up just a tad, and is a soft dome, so you'll be getting some extra detail without getting fatigued. They don't get super low unfortunately.

These HSUs are going to be over your budget but a bit, but I'd like to bring them to your attention anyways. They have an extremely well designed horn that gives them fast and clean vocals and a top end, but also doesn't sound shouty or bright. They really are fantastic speakers. I don't have a way to measure them, but I was playing around with a tone generator and I was getting strong bass down until around 35hz. Very pleased with them overall. The bass is also extremely punchy and clean. Just all around a fun speaker.

These Paradigms are my last recommendation. I've heard them a few times, but not enough to give you a detailed explanation. Sorry about that. They sound good though.

Let me know if you have any questions.
