If you start using it ASAP in primitive form before the build (like an overnight with a sleeping bag on the floor) perfectionism can be short circuited. Each improvement could be compared to that first rough night rather than to some idealized plan in the head. :-)

Edit: a used copy of the out-of-print Woodall's RV repair guide should help with understanding how stuff is maintained.
