Here’s a huge plus side to living abroad: locals are often more forgiving of your aspie eccentricities as they will chalk it up to “culture”. You can get away with more social mistakes!
I can recommend the “Xenophobe’s Guide to the Kiwis” book for learning about the culture.

It sucks that your parent prefers New Zealand to Japan, but hey, New Zealand might be easier in terms of language. Plenty of time for you to go to Japan when you are older. I always wanted to go to Japan, finally made it at 26 and loved it. It’s worth the wait! Hang on in there.
