Don't know what you call fiber board, but the one I know is heavier than plywood, not by much, but heavier. The problem with wood is not the weight but the volume. If i build a steel bed frame being conscious about the weight and compare it to a similar one (by weight) made of wood, the steel one would bend/flex more easily than the wood one, but it would take less space.

Take for example this bed frame, a similar one made out of wood would be bulkier, and maybe even stronger considering how your average vandweller(myself included) uses 2x4 for everything and cheaper.

For panelling I was considering using sheets of plastic instead of the usual 1/8" plywood but decided against because of the price and weight.

If you are smart about designing your wood interior you can make a pretty sturdy build without much added weight, but it takes time, and trial and error to get it right, while slapping some 2x4 together with some 2" wood screws is faster.

I bought a metal frame on Amazon which has brackets you can get to attach head/foot/side boards. Solid, eliminates the need for a box during, and you can dress it up how you want.

It all depends one what you want in a place and what style you’re looking for.

Your biggest issue to simply put it, it looks like a room of a 14 year old. This is for a variety of reasons. What I’m going to say obviously will include my taste, which you may or may not like.

  • Those masks on the wall. Take them down and put them out of view from anyone. They are tacky.
  • The “Can’t Even” sign is tacky, take that down also.

-Your posters look awful to be frank. I think those are beyond framing even. You also have a bad number, it’s too much and not enough. Some people make a whole wall of posters which looks good, some people have just 2 in frames and that looks alright. You have a bad number and they look beaten up. What I would do instead is take them all out of view, get one really big painting or a really big poster that you like and frame it. A big canvas you like would be pretty nice as well. On the left wall. Maybe the right also. Can probably keep the clock but hang it better.

  • You need something to get your mattress off the floor. Shit even a couple of pallets under it or something. Pallets you can get cheap compared to a bed frame. Also your bedding/sheets/comforter look like a 14 year olds. Get a solid bold color for sheets, pillowcases, comforter. Don’t have mix matched stuff. Boom. Bed/Mattress situation fixed.

  • Notice the top of literally everything you could put something. It’s all cluttered. Every surface. My suggestion would be get a smaller dresser, and a small bookshelf for the stuff on all the surfaces. The dresser you have is missing a knob anyways. On your new dresser, the only thing that should be on the surface is accessories/cologne/a picture of family.

-I personally dislike that desk very much. Get a different one.

    -Cable management

-Get a cactus or some kind of easy managed small plant.

-Get you a new backpack that doesn’t look like a 14 year olds.

I know I mentioned get a few things, if money is an issue, look at Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist. If you’re in college I guarantee you there are plenty of new grads selling stuff on the cheap. Barely used and matching stuff.

My thing is your place doesn’t look masculine at all. It looks like a teenage boys room. And I know you’re in college, but that’s my opinion. Of course, this is my personal taste.

Edit: Absolutely get rid of that color disco ball. And I assume that is a speaker/sound system is what’s below it. It’s much too big for your space. Get a better, more compact one, and put it on aforementioned bookshelf.
