Oh boy, it's my time to shine! I'll try to keep it short and entertaining.
WELL, my first (and so far only) book is a steampunk/fantasy adventure novel called "Sky PUNK: Deus Ex Machina"(Link to it on Amazom HERE).
Now, let me tell you why you should read it:
It's a high-flying adventure in a world of floating islands. It's centered on the crew of a flying ship called "The Galileo" and the trouble they get in as they go from island to island. If you aren't entertained by the action and explosions, you will be by the lovely, quirky, badass and sometimes insane minor characters that the main characters interact with. It is a lovely combination between steampunk and classic fantasy tropes and elements, with some Macedonian folklore elements tossed in (attributed to the fact that the author is Macedonian)
Read it because of flying ships battling. Read it because it plays with tropes in unexpected ways (and by the time you reach the end you'll see why i named the book what i did). Read it because of the big fantasy world of floating islands and the world-buildimg. Read it because explosions.
Read it because, even if it's not the best book you read (i guarantee it won't be), it's an engaging, interesting and captivating piece of fiction which will keep you entertained.

Yes, I have read it. The ideas are great, and redeem the rest of the book somewhat. Hodgson was ahead of his time imaginatively (very interesting takes on technology, the future of evolution, weaponry, the dying Earth, etc) but in The Night Land the writing is simply awful.
It is very repetitive and awkward, so much so that there are several versions of the book out there, with different degrees of editing, etc. I believe this free version is the full text. The one I read was this re-release, which is about 40 pages shorter. Apparently some of his other novels are much better written, specifically The House on the Borderlands.
I would say it is worth reading for its importance to the development of speculative fiction (Lovecraft, C. S. Lewis, and plenty of more modern authors praise Hodgson), but it wasn't a pleasant reading experience.
That is possible. If you DO want to give someone a chance to change your mind, though, I'd recommend the free sample in New Avalon: Love and Loss in The City of Steam. Doubly recommend if you're the sort of person who likes to feel tears in your eyes when you reach the end of the tale.

I would recommend "A Clockwork Looking Glass" by Michael Rigg. It also started an actual play podcast for his steampunk universe, which is really nice to listen to.

Dragonfly warrior by Jay noel. Its an easy but fun read. https://www.amazon.com/Dragonfly-Warrior-Mechanica-Wars-Book-ebook/dp/B00HCQAUCS
Hmm... Well, the Dragonriders of Pern are basically a disaster relief agency. So I'm going to count the protagonists there. And the Harper Hall books, about musicians in the same setting.
The progatonists of Disturbing Clockwork are a courier and an inventor. And a dog.
Obviously there's Commander Vimes, a police officer. Other Discworld heroes include a conman/mailman/banker and a journalist.
Oh, of course! Shallan from The Stormlight Archive. An artist and natural philosopher.
Mercedes Lackey's Bardic Voices series is primarily about musicians, while the fourth book centers around an investigator.

You're...so close on some of the details. Close enough for me to get you an answer, anyway.
Luck Stat Strategy by Blaise Corvin, author of the Delvers LLC series you may see bandied about here.
Finally? There have been books written about African American woman spies before...

That's the US kindle version, don't know which you'd prefer. The codes only work for audible I believe
Short but free this weekend. A good old fashion war story set in a post-industrial world.

It didn't strike me as something very well-known, so I didn't bother - I could be wrong though, so with that in mind, it's
Timepiece
Serious question, have you even read the book? Or at least the free sample if you don't want to pay for it?
>The definition you linked describes perfectly the level of incompetence he displayed,
No it doesn't. There is a difference between incompetence of an author, and incompetence of a character. Unintentionally having a character do something stupid or illogical is the incompetence of an author. Knowingly writing a character doing something stupid is a deliberate choice by an author.
>My theories are that you’re either related to the author, you are the author himself, you have some type of cognitive disability or you’re just a deeply dishonest person.
What do you suppose is more likely? That someone praising a book is the author himself (who already posted in this thread on his own account), or a fan of the book?
Consider the reviews of the book: https://www.amazon.com/Luck-Stat-Strategy-Secret-Ones-ebook/dp/B01NCVJ9L4/ref=sr_1_5?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1523934999&sr=1-5
Out of over 150 reviews, 74% are 5 star and 17% are 4 stars.
Do you suppose all of them are just "mentally disabled"?
Hello
My first short story is now available on kindle for the small sum of £1.00 (it'd be less if amazon would let me) apologies to other currencies, but it is available on Kindle unlimited.
Link for US
Link for UK
It's the story of Tom, a young and disillusioned soldier with minimal training who must survive a stormy night as war comes to the small town his unit was sent to garrison.
It's set in a world similar to our own but with a technology closer to the first world war era. I hope to make it into a series and as the war unfolds the past is revealed.
Not convinced, then see what an Amazon top 100 reviewer has to say about it:
>the skill with which the story itself was handled was quite remarkable. The nervousness of a soldier who wasn't expecting to see combat, who shouldn't have been there, and yet found himself in the company of so many others as untried and terrified as he was. The emotion was unspeakably accurate. The fear and confusion, the shaking hands, and fumbled attempts to use a weapon that was unfamiliar. The frozen thoughts, and disbelief of shooting at another human.
Thanks and look out for the next installment soon.
