Clever-Lazy springs to mind. The main character is an inventor/scientist, and her parents are bakers.
Come to think of it, I have come across a few Chinese fantasies, but I cannot for the life of me remember the names of most of them! Clever-Lazy was one, but there was so little magic I think a few historical details would have landed it in historical fiction territory.
