There are two (or maybe three?) rather obscure ones he's on, but I'll have to dig around through some on-line discographies to find them (and I've never heard any of them, but have always been curious to). Here's the first one (and keep checking back, I'll update this post with the others as I can find them)...

  • The George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band ‎– Live At The "Quartier Latin" Berlin (MPS, 1982 - 2LP)

OK, I think(?) this is the 2nd one - but this isn't the album cover I've seen before. OK, I got this figured out. The first link below is the original LP. The second link is a compilation that includes that same album, but one other album (without Joe), both on the same CD. 95% sure this is the same material on both. I've thought about getting this for years and years (maybe one of these days).

  • James Leary ‎– Legacy (Blue Collar Records, 1981)

  • James Leary - Together (Lifeforce Jazz, 2013 compilation of original 1981 album, plus one other album (on the same CD) that I don't know the origin of, without Joe)

NO IDEA what the 3rd one might be that I was maybe thinking of, or if I was just imagining there was a 3rd one. I'll have to really carefully look thought a couple very detailed Joe Henderson on-line discographies that are out there.

I've never heard the Gruntz or Leary dates, so I don't know exactly how "Big Band"-y they are (the Gruntz obviously should be). The Leary I'm just judging based on the size of the personnel listed in the credits.

OK, OK, OK. There IS a 3rd one I just found, also George Gruntz...

  • *[George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band '87 ‎– Happening Now!](https://www.discogs.com/George-Gruntz-Concert-Jazz-Band-87-Happening-Now/release/2858601)** (hat ART, 1988)

But I had no real memory of that one, so I'm suddenly wondering if there's actually maybe a 4th one???

OK, that might be it. I've been through one source, front to back (discogs.org). There's one other really DEEP Joe Henderson discography that I can go over at some point (maybe tonight, or tomorrow), and see if I can find anything there. It's all text-based, so it's gonna be a lot more tedious, but maybe something will jump out a me there.

Welcome!

Jazz is quite varied so it's difficult to pick out an album unless you have some idea of his/her taste. Listeners of traditional jazz, for instance, tend to have a strong dislike of "smooth jazz" (and say things like "it's not jazz at all but instrumental pop"; well, at least I do). Were there any examples? I'm not familiar with the Cheating the Polygraph album. I listened to a couple samples and, while somewhat interesting, didn't wow me.

A couple I'd be interested in are Jack DeJohnette's In Movement found on UK Amazon here and ECM's product page here and Brad Mehldau's Blues and Ballads. I also just saw Mehldau's label, Nonesuch, has 15% off on its store liked here, but I don't know if they have a UK shop.

Again, those would be good ideas for me. This person may be very different or may already have them.

Another route may be some accessories, as there are quite a few related to vinyl. For instance, here are some inner record sleeves. You may want to consider outer sleeves, too. I didn't see the ones I know on the UK site, but there are a few. I think any vinyl collector could always use good sleeves.

There are a few book options, as well. I'd like this Jazz Image book, for instance.

Maria Schneider - Thompson Fields

Incredibly textured, emotional, and stunningly beautiful. Incredible musicians too. The title track made me pull over in my car to listen.

Lickety Split: The Music of Jim Mcneely

Amazingly creative, intelligent and fun arrangements.

Mel Lewis and The Jazz Orchestra Live At The Village Vanguard -Compositions of Bob Brookmeyer

My favorite arranger. Just amazing music.

Madly Loving you - Bob Brookmeyer with The Ed Partyka Orchestra

Prominent arrangers composed music for Bob Brookmeyer. You can imagine the results when people try to impress their idol.

Thad Jones / Mel Lewis - Consummation

Just legendary.

It's hard to say what he might or might not have. Ideas:

http://www.amazon.com/imagined-savior-far-easier-paint/dp/B00HGFIMK2

This is a jazz album that just came out this year and is pretty critically acclaimed. It's recent, so he might not have it.

This is one of the best jazz musician autobiographies I've read. There's a chance that the guy might have read it already, though.

Why yes, I am a bot.

u/nspectre · 2 pointsr/movies

The soundtrack CD that accompanies it is absolutely fantastic.

u/hisham_hm · 2 pointsr/technology

Hah, just as I expected.

Both his box-set, which he's urging fans not to buy, and the Louis Armstrong box-set he's telling fans to buy instead, are owned by the same company.
