Hello! I'm unsure as to what you mean by "punched," so I didn't really include that in the notebooks I'm recommending below. Sorry that none of the notebooks are exactly what you asked for, but I hope this helps out!

First off, a Rhodia Wirebound Notepad! Rhodia is well known and popular for its fantastic paper, which I must agree from experience, is fantastic. The 80 gsm paper will hold up to a lot of different mediums, and the paper is just so smooth. This notepad isn't exactly A4, but it's a pretty close size comparison. While it's not blank, the dot grid is pretty decent, making it a good alternative to a blank dotpad.

Secondly, a pretty generalized recommendation would be any sketchbook from Dick Blick. I haven't exclusively checked for A4, but these sketchbooks are pretty fantastic. Since they're for art, they're going to be fantastically thick, standing up to plenty of mediums, but they are on the pricier side. Also, only a handful of them are micropreforated, such as the Strathmore 400 Series Recycled Paper Pads and the Strathmore Windpower Drawing Pad.

The last recommendation I have is another Rhodia Notepad. This is not spiral bound, unfortunately, but it is blank, unlike the first notepad. These pages are also micropreforated at the top and has that wonderfully smooth and nice Rhodia paper.

To all the readers who may ask themselfes what I bought in the end, it was the following combination. I got my GF:

Rhodia Meeting Book A4+ It arrived today and it's basically what you can see on the picture. The paper seems a little too smooth but we will see for a rollerball. Maybe I'm just not used to that kind of paper.

Parker IM Rollerball It's a real silver, like in the description. Although on the picture it appears more like champagne. Looks beautiful, feels like "heavy" quality.

Parker Urban Premium I ordered this one as well. From a material point of view, it doesn't feel quite heavy as the regular IM. I like the design and the color scheme a little bit more. It's not a girly pink but a real nice, slightly rosé tone. I'm not sure which one to keep, will decide the comming days.

Jinhao 450 gold This one I ordered today, does anyone know, what material the gold version come? Is it plastic or metal as well?

Black mate Jinhao 450

Talking about fountain pens all the time I thought I should give it a try for myself :) :) The original thought of mine was to keep the mate black one as a backup. So if I like the golden one for my GF and if it works well, I'll keep the black one for myself.

u/holtzmanned · 11 pointsr/fountainpens

I’ve been waiting to buy this pen for months and months, and I finally did it. I got the clear transparent one with a fine nib from a Japanese seller on eBay. I’m in the northeastern US. I ordered it on Saturday night, and it arrived at my house today. Others in the community highly recommended this seller when I asked about them a while back, and I do as well. They sent me a picture of my pen before it shipped and included a little paper crane in the box!

I flushed it out and filled it with Pilot blue black. This is my first time using Pilot blue black. I got it because Sailor Sei-boku is my favorite ink, but it’s difficult to clean out of any pen, and this pen is particularly hard to clean. It’s good alternative, although it shades less and doesn’t have the greenish hue that makes Sei-boku unique.

The pen writes beautifully. It’s nice and smooth with minimal feedback. The fine is a true Japanese fine, which is my ideal nib size because I have small handwriting that all kind of runs together in broader nibs.

I'm going back to school in the spring for the first time in over three years, and I will be doing a lot of writing. I bought a five pack of Maruman B5 graph notebooks to use for chemistry and calculus, and I'm stupid reckless enough to use pen for math. With the fine nib and excellent ink capacity, I'm really looking forward to using this pen as a workhorse for long writing sessions.

I have quite an extensive collection of yard and shop tools that I use for their specific tasks and there are several great resources on what you should have in your shop and shed on both youtube and here on reddit. The items below are things I use daily on my homestead and would suggest looking into for yours as well.

Taking from the popular EDC EveryDay Carry folks, I propose HSC, HomeStead Carry:

  • A pen, I like the Pilot G2

  • A notepad I use the Rite-in-the-Rain style I am coming to realize that my ADHD brain while quite good at remembering things, sometimes forgets to remember when I am at the Hardware Store, or Feed Store about that one item that I saw I needed last week.

  • A good pocket knife. (I don't want to get into which one, I have seen too many debates on this.)

  • A good pair of leather work gloves. Costco has this 3 pack for under 20 bucks, in store, that are great. I have only worn through one of the 6 gloves so far. If only I could stop forgetting where I put my left hand gloves.

  • I love my Klein's Linesman pliers.

  • Zip ties These items are very helpful at temporarily fixing things and come in a variety of sizes for different uses. I have at least one of these bags at all times, and try to keep several larger sizes in stock as well. I will admit to using these to put up a "temporary" wire fence while I am building my cedar fence, they have lasted for over a year. Makes for quick fence moving and it is lighter to carry 25 of these than a roll of bailing wire.

  • I also try to carry one of these multi-bit screw/nut drivers with me as it saves trips back to the shop for something you didn't know you needed.

  • While on the homestead I am usually wearing a pair of double-front carpenter pants from Carhart with a pair of suspenders to keep them up with all of the items I carry, these allow for working in all circumstances and offer good protection against scrapes and pokes.

A lot of these comments are speaking about the traditional journal/dairy recapping a day's events.

I found it easy to carry a journal to write down any ideas or to-do items I had throughout the day. This started from a competition of who could have the best "Million Dollar Idea" between friends and became a habit.

You will develop your own rules, but some of the following have worked out for me:

  1. If you have a good idea or new to-do item, stop what you're doing to jot it down.
  2. Don't be afraid to start a new page on any given item.
  3. Use bullet points and check them off as ideas and to-dos have been completed.
  4. When working on a project, document the steps that you have taken and the next steps. This will help you enter the same mindset when coming back to something. (This has helped immensely)
  5. Take time to review what you have written down from time to time. You may be surprised at all your good ideas that would have gone forgotten.

Another upside to carrying a journal with you is that its seen in a positive light. You may be viewed as organized and put together in a professional environment.

For my day to day I use the Moleskine Lined Hardcover (CM 13X21, IN 5.1X8.3). The following are also excellent brands: Rhodia, Field Notes, Maruman, and Midori.

Also check out Kevin Rose's podcast episode where he looks into the best journals here for more useful info.

I totally understand, TRP is not great for quickly jotting down a note and closing the notebook immediately. The old 003 grid Traveler's insert was pretty good and had all pages perfed, but they changed it a few months back.

There are some options, like the Fabriano EcoQua pocket notebooks which are half perforated (back half). I was, and still kind of am, in to perfed pages and that worked pretty well for me. Pretty sturdy notebooks too. As a bonus, it's ~$10 for a 4 pack so price per notebook is good too.

u/battraman · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

First, congratulations on entering college. Engineering is a great field. I work with some good engineers myself.

  • Backpack: L.L. Bean Deluxe Book Pack My mom bought me this bookbag when I was in middle school. I still use it today (20+ years later) though not daily. The front fit my Macbook (13.3" Gen 1) in college. I was actually paranoid about busting it so I actually put a big piece of foam around it and was sure to not slam the bag down. I still use that laptop daily (it turns eight years old next month.)

  • Notebook This is probably the most personal thing on your list and is really up to your own style and habits. I was a Comp Sci & Business double major and used something like this at first but eventually moved to separate subject notebooks and then back to the All-In-One notebook. Honestly, as a guy who has WAY too many notebooks, try a bunch out and see what you like. You can always copy your note.

  • Calculator: Check with your professors on what calculator is required. You can get them used on Amazon/eBay. I've heard that some schools are allowing smartphone apps but for the most part, the teacher knows the calculator tool and they will tell you the Ti-8X, HP or Casio model they require you to buy. Calculators are pretty durable as long as you keep them in the hard case. I just sold one that was about 10 years old (an HP Scientific) for $50.
u/Sieberella · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

/u/A_Blank_Space - Space is an awesome person and is always very fun to talk to. She's super sweet and chats with everyone! You should get her these notebooks on her wishlist, because then she'll have something to write in with the fancy pens I got her! ;)

u/MShades · 1 pointr/Calligraphy

I don't think it's that thin, really, but yes - slid the printed guidelines right underneath. Between the bold lines and the shaded interlinear space, it stands out quite well. I don't know the pound weight on the paper, but it's my favorite to do calligraphy on - the Maruman Mnemosyne line.

u/Krispyz · 1 pointr/bulletjournal

I pretty much want exactly the same thing. I haven't done any journaling yet, but am considering getting into it. I went to my local Office Max today and they had no journals with dot-grids (I asked), but there were a couple lined/graph journals that were a really nice size, spiral bound, good cover, and good paper... but not dots. The guy I asked jokingly said "we'll probably get them once people stop using them".

I'm considering ordering this one. But maybe more experienced journalers can weigh in on better options. I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread!

Thank you! Probably gonna print out the typewriter labels at the top in the future so I don’t have to spend so much time hand-lettering them. The note book is this one from amazon. It’s great IMO because it’s A5 and 120gsm paper :)

u/theethertect · 3 pointsr/bujo

I switched to the Miliko spiral notebook this year and absolutely love it. Amazon has one with a soft leather cover that looks pretty sharp so it works well as both a personal and a work related journal.https://www.amazon.com/Leather-Softcover-Wirebound-Notebook-Journal-90/dp/B06XH4CB9M/

u/WanboNI · 1 pointr/bulletjournal

Funny you should mention that......my current laptop is a Lenovo Y510 which is black with a red lit keyboard 😆

I'm a big fan of simple things......two colours.....red and black, a dark grey and light blue, yellow and orange even.....less is usually more

u/7heDaniel · 3 pointsr/fountainpens

Let me start off by saying that, initially, this might seem like a lot (I'm an A level student, so I can understand if money is tight if you're independent), but it is a stupidly good investment.

I was able to get these off of Amazon for £8~ (if you do a bit of searching, you'll find a 'new and used' for this price). I got Prime for the pure sake of getting this.

The paper quality is amazing - I have done calligraphy on this and I haven't had any issues with it. There are no margins which, personally, I enjoy. Albeit, this is not everyone's cup of tea, and drawing a margin every page could be a bit annoying.

That being said, you get 10 packs of 120 page top quality paper which comes to £0.0067 a page. I personally prefer this paper to Oxford and Rhodia; I've never tried WH Smiths own brand before.

u/GoyaHeart · 2 pointsr/bujo

I use Blueline’s Miracle Bind notebooks for my work. (link) The movable pages are reinforced and can be moved multiple times without concern (an issue I had with Disc). I now use the full size, but got the smaller 9x7 first and loved it.

u/acupofphotographs · 3 pointsr/fountainpens

I used to use this along with the Binder from Kokuyo.

It's B5, but ~$12 for 200 sheets is super worth it.

u/foxstrontium · 2 pointsr/AskUK

I really love these notebooks for the feel of the paper. Been using them for 5+ years and still pristine, but I'm not using them as heavily as I would for college. I used to find them at a local discount shop for £1 each, but that 10-pack I've linked to is the cheapest I can find now.

Hubby really loves Black & Red notebooks, which he's been using for decades. The ones he likes are the sewn in sheets, though if you need to tear out pages, they make spiral bound, too. We used to get those for £1, too, but they quit having those and now I can only find them for stupid prices.

If I couldn't get either of those (from any retailer), I'd look through Ryman's offerings.

I used to get anxiety about not having my keys on me and getting locked out of my apartment, so I made the bulky key chain so I'd be able to easily feel it's mass in my pocket. Well, I was still getting anxiety, so I took the next step and bought the retractable key holder. I love this thing! I always know where my keys are (on my belt) and I'm never going to drop them or anything, it's great.

u/DaQuickening · 2 pointsr/notebooks

As with the other person that responded I don't have any experience with the filofax stuff.
I do have a favorite pocket notebook and that's the [fabriano ecoqua] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FXTDAVE/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1449378818&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=fabriano+ecoqua&dpPl=1&dpID=41pA8SU62CL&ref=plSrch). I think they hold up well and also do really good with fountain pens.

u/Hanginon · 2 pointsr/camping

THIS! Here is the best "app" that's sure to work/record under any type of field conditions and have recoverable information long into the future.

u/JohnProof · 1 pointr/electricians

Absolutely. I carry these pads they're cheap and reasonably durable and water resistant.

Also keep some pens/pencils and a knife and flashlight. Being Johnny-on-the-spot when somebody needs a basic tool definitely makes a good impression.

u/dac22 · 2 pointsr/notebooks

You've got it! There are tons of spiralbound sketchbooks, but they tend to have thick paper. You can browse them at any art supply store or a Barnes and Nobles. Another option is to go to the Print/Copy office at an office supply store and ask them to bind blank paper in a spiral notebook; should be pretty cheap or they might even do it for the cost of the paper.

As for blank spiral notebooks, check out Maruman Mnemosyne notebooks and Rite in the Rain (but careful with what pen you use).

u/flex-luthor · 5 pointsr/notebooks

Kokuyo has a 26-hole binder paper that fits in a binder. Get a couple binders, one to carry and one for storage, and then you could carry less with you daily and then re-organize and file papers away when you don't need to carry them. This may also help when you are reviewing, as you can insert summary pages where they belong. I think the Semi B5 size is an excellent one.

u/Prrrtz · 2 pointsr/notebooks

Yeah, you could use the regular staplebound pads or the wirebound notebooks.

I realized that if you pull the dot grid sheets out of an A5 pad, their size will be less than A5. As I’m picky as hell, I got the A5+ 193439c notebook so that the detached paper size is exactly A5. Also, they are micro perforated, which helps. Note that the dots are bluish though, not sure why they do not use the subtle grey of their notepads.

They have A4+ staplebound pads as well.

Hey, thanks for the offer! So generous! :)

They’re great notebooks, paper is wonderful for fountain pens. Grid markings clear but not distracting. Highly recommend!

I'm a regular motorcyclist. This is everything I have on me when going out on it, whether commuting to work or just going for a day ride.
Being a motorcyclist I'm more likely to be involved in or be the first (or first prepared) person to deal with an incident on the road.
My kit is a lot of first aid and safety related equipment. The notebook I'll use if details need to be taken down before the police can arrive.

I have so many, but the ones that come to mind right now are the mock turtle from Alice in Wonderland, Delirium from the Sandman comic book series, Shadow from American Gods, and Vishous from the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Here is what I'd like if I win.

For the poor college student:

There are kukuyo campus notebook knockoffs at Daiso for 1.50. the Quality isn't bad and for most notes: pencil, pen, etc it's fine. I don't rec if you're going to use fountain pen for your notes.

pencils: rOtring goes on sale on Massdrop quite often. You should be able to pick up 2 for $30ish.

pens: Uniball signo all the way if you are ok with caps. If not the standard G2 are great all around pens.

Since I don't like actual bound notebooks and prefer looseleaf, I bought this thing called a "notebook binder" and just buy refills for it.

I tried these ["spiral notebook binders"](https://www.amazon.com/Kokuyo-Campus-Smart-Ring-Binder/dp/B0066LZLEC/ref=pd_sim_229_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=41zklYlfOiL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=ZRDHP6SVGYA3R9J207G8) and I honestly hate them because it's twist to open and they kept opening >(

u/upleft · 4 pointsr/userexperience

I'm a big fan of the A5 Fabriano dot grid notebooks. They're glue bound, so the sheets tear out really easy, so you can get the sketches out of the sketchbook and spread them out on your desk if you need to see a bunch at once. Keep it all held together with a simple binder clip.

They get bad reviews on amazon from people who wanted a more permanent binding, but I like them for work specifically because I can tear sheets out, rearrange pages, remove pages, etc.

u/kekslawine · 1 pointr/bulletjournal

The gluebound Fabriano Ecoqua has a 4mm dot grid.

There is a good chance this might be the same paper as the notebook with the elastic.

I personally use Mnemosyne A5 pads.

https://www.amazon.com/Maruman-Mnemosyne-Special-Memo-Notepad/dp/B001A1TO14

This is Amazon Basics legal pad that my work buys a lot and believe it or not the paper is pretty decent. Slight Bleeding happens but no feathering!! I was really surprise with the quality.

Well if it's actual paper notebooks you are talking I have a solution for you, but if I am correct there are no digital equivalents for now :)

I use graph paper (which conveniently doubles as guidelines). Currently I'm using my Rhodia A4 (8.3x11.7 sq. in.) White 80g pad with 5mmx5mm grid. It's easy to judge how tall your letters need to be.

Edit: Reading the chart on the back of the pad (where Rhodia shows all the different stuff they make), they do have A4 and A5 pads with no ruling at all. You should search around on Amazon or something.

2nd Edit: Here's a link to the Amazon page for a Rhodia A4 blank pad.

I've tried loads (I prefer softcover and thinner - I don't want to schlep the weight of a hardback book with 200+ pages)

-Fabriano ecoqua spiral bound grid

-Fabriano ecoqua dot grid

-Northbooks softcover dot grid

-Miliko spiral hardcover dot grid

-Currently I'm using a freebie that The Spouse got at a conference... I think it was made by Northbooks.

These all have their advantages and disadvantages. After about six months in bound books I've bought another of the spiral bound Fabrianos for my next notebook.

I like them. A little bleed thru with markers though but none with my pen I use.

You can find them on Amazon for $4. I just ordered one for myself.

I've bought similar paper from the Kinokuniya bookstore near my house. The brand is 'Kokuyo, ' but I think the one in OP's pic is different. The paper I have is blue-lined. It fits in B5 size binders.

Here it is on Amazon

Hey,
