🎓 Reddit experts on adult alternative music
The comments and opinions expressed on this page are written exclusively by redditors. To provide you with the most relevant data, we sourced opinions from the most knowledgeable Reddit users based the total number of upvotes and downvotes received across comments on subreddits where adult alternative music are discussed. For your reference and for the sake of transparency, here are the specialists whose opinions mattered the most in our ranking.
1.) These postcards are mostly grey. And black and white. And they are also good for grey days. :)
2.) This is The Dead Weather's debut album. A good one. (jack white <3 <3 <3)
3.) As you will see on the track listing, the eponymous The White Stripes album has TWO songs on it that relate to food: "Sugar Never Tasted So Good" and "One More Cup of Coffee". Plus, the cover has the traditional swirly mints of The White Stripes. (Also, this one reminded me that I don't have Neutral Milk Hotel's first album on my list! So thanks for that.)
4.) The postcard books are for my friends. I send postcards to them. This TOTALLY counts. Especially the David Choe ones since David Choe is amazing. And I know that my friends like his art.
5.) If there is ANY chance that you have not read Sabriel, you need too. Really, really, really.
6.) This was on my list, but was removed after the lovely /u/scrumtrelescent sent it to me! And heads are definitely not related to hair, because heads can be bald. And the biggest annoyance about these things is that they sometimes get stuck in your hair. So it's really an advantage if you have no hair. :)
7.) This postcard book is actually titled "Wicked Witches and Creepy Cats", so there are lots of cats in it. If you look inside, you will see a cat dancing with an owl, an awesome dress covered in cat faces, and a very cute cat in a pumpkin. Also some truly scary cartoonish cats. Avoid the one in the bowtie. shudder
8.) I really don't need another dress, but this one is so cute!
9.) So...I don't have movies on my list that I have seen before. I actually only have this one. BUT. I can save this. This is a Studio Ghibli film. And Studio Ghibli films are awesome. (Spirited Away is my favorite movie <3) So...my argument is, everyone should watch every Studio Ghibli movie at least once in their life because they're so great. Which is why I want it! :)
10.) When zombies attack, it is important to be able to run quickly. No one could run faster than someone wearing SUPERMAN SNEAKERS!! I mean, he's faster than a speeding bullet!
11.) My biggest current goal is to make new friends, since I'm moving to a new city (eek! yay!). Board games always help with friends! This would definitely help me out.
12.) I'm going to interpret "pesky Add-On items" as anything that a company encourages you to purchase after an initial purchase of an item. Instead of what you really meant. So you should probably just ignore this one. BUT. An expansion to Munchkin would be so fun! Even if you don't really need it at all... <3
13.) I wouldn't call this my dream item, but it is the most expensive item on my list. This NES game for a number of reasons. First, it's a GREAT game. Second, I think it's funny having an amazingly expensive item on my list. Thirdly, what if someone actually bought me the "new" one? That would be Amazing.
14.) (I love the edit-I always just knew what size a breadbox was from playing 20 questions with my mom...) So. I don't really have large items on this list so much. BUT. [Fabric] (http://www.amazon.com/Aviary-Sparrows-Cavern-Black-Fabric/dp/B004VNVE7A/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=NO029QAH2C2U&coliid=IEEZTV09MV12V), while perhaps being able to fold up into something smaller than a bread box, could also wrap around the bread box. This must count for something. It's already 42" across, so that's wider than a bread box...Plus, what if you just purchased 100 yards of it? Then it wouldn't fit inside...
15.) My dad has one of these and it is so useful. I want one too! I'm pretty sure it's smaller than a golfball. It's possible that it's longer than one, but if you smushed it into little pieces, the total volume would definitely be less than that of a golfball. :P
16.) If I ordered this now, it would be brand new when I recieved it in September, and new books just smell SO GOOD!
17.) I love Rio Grande games, so I really want to try Power Grid. Plus, if you worked at an electrical company, your boss might even think you were just hard at work on some new electrical line, soooo it's definitely safe for work. (hehehe)
18.) Since I'm starting grad school this year in a new city, far from my undergrad friends, I need chocolate to help me when I'm sad and lonely! (Another good way to make friends, too!)
19.) This summer, the only thing I've been doing is making things. I really want to get into making hats (for some reason), so I've been rather obsessed with finding sinamay-it would be so useful to have the forms already made too...
20.) Purchasing this item gives you TWELVE Toblerone bars (you get two of the beautiful 6-pack boxes that you see pictured. That's ELEVEN MORE than usual!!! I can't explain the amazingness of this any better.
BONUS ITEMS
Anything that has my real name on it: Hm. Will have to do more research. :)
Made in Oregon: While perhaps not recorded or manufactured in Oregon, as The Decemberists are from Portland, OR, these songs were certainly composed there!
fear cuts deeper than swords
I love playing Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds: Live at Radio City Music Hall. The audio is lossless 5.1 24-bit/96kHz Dolby TrueHD, or lossless 2.0 24-bit/48kHz PCM, and as far as video -- to quote from the review at Blu-ray.com:
>Spread out over a BD-50 disc, the video is a stunner from the first frame to the last. Most concerts I reviewed looked like high quality video, but not this one. This is the first presentation that looked like high quality judder free film. It is the most natural looking concert video I have ever seen. Captured with nine high definition cameras, the color reproduction is perfect as it accentuates the subtle but dramatic lighting in the hall. The lighting scheme washes the stage and hall with warm oranges and reds, and dramatic purples and blues, and it spilled out of my set like liquid crayons. Detail is excellent from the wide shots to the close shots; everything is rendered with dramatic clarity and razor sharp focus. There is no noise or compression artifacts found on this presentation. Blacks and contrast are sublime, with terrific shadow delineation. This is the best looking concert video I have ever reviewed bar none.
For me this is the Blu-ray that blows people away. I especially love, and usually play the last track, Two Step.

|name|Beck|
|album|Sea Change, released Jun 2007|
|track|Guess I'm Doing Fine|
|about track|Guess I'm Doing Fine is a single by Beck from his fifth major-label album, the critically acclaimed Sea Change. It was a successful single and is one of Beck's better known songs. "Guess I'm Doing Fine" was written by Beck, and like almost every other song on Sea Change, talks about his struggles with the recent break-up with someone he loved. It is often misinterpreted as a song about the death of one of his loved ones, because of the title, and these lines: "Yellow roses in the graveyard, Have no time to watch them grow." The video was directed by Spike Jonze, and produced by Emma Wilcockson. It shows Beck playing a guitar, and walking around many places. In one moment, he doesn't hold a guitar, but due to special effects (fishing line), the guitar begins to follow him. He walks to a tree with his guitar, and sits down. Eventually, a soccer ball hits him while he's sitting, and the person who accidentally rolled the ball on the ground to hit him, asks "What are you doing?" (Closed captioning is now on), while Beck answers, "Oh..um.., we're shooting a video for a song I wrote". The soccer player says "What's the song about?", and Beck replies "Oh man, It's a long story". Then, the closed captioning ends, while Beck tells the person about the song. He begins to play soccer with the soccer player and "the crew", but he leaves after a few minutes, and he begins walking with his guitar on. The song mostly gained quite positive reviews from critics. Rolling Stone magazine said "Guess I'm Doing Fine" was one of the highlights of Sea Change and one of the songs that made it one of Beck's better albums. Later, in the album's review, the magazine said it was his best album yet. 1 E! Online also gave the song a positive review, saying it was one of the highlights, and also added that the song got even better with repeated play, and that it grew on the listener.|

Well, not a CD but the last physical copy of anything I bought was a white vinyl of Portugal, The Man's "In the Mountain in the Cloud" album. It was at a free show in Seattle in this old school record store. I found out about it last minute through a friend and decided to go on a whim. Turns out they were giving out free beer too! and you got to keep the glass!
After the concert they had a meet n greet thing with the artists and they were selling merch. My buddy wanted to get a shirt so we waited in the merch line and I noticed how long the meet n greet line was, probably like 2-3 hours. I also noticed the band getting ready to go over there and the last copy of the white album vinyl behind the counter. I loudly told the cashier that I wanted it, the band heard it and looked over at me, I acted like I just saw them and quietly started talking to them. No one around me even recognized them, I thanked them for the show and they offered to sign my vinyl, which now hangs in a frame on my wall.
I've wanted to go to Wallachia since I learned of vampires, which was so long ago I can't remember. I don't know if that or going to England would be best though, because I've wanted to go there since forever and want to live there someday as well. Wallachia would be great because I want to see Vlad the Impaler's real castle, the one that he actually lived in. England, well, I'm obsessed with England. I love it. I want to go there. I also want to go to Germany because that's where all my favorite music is from.

I would like to win Where's Neil When You Need Him if I win. Or you may surprise me if you like as well. Thank you.
I have two albums on my music wishlist right now, but would love this one.
Honestly, I love those kids bop, or that's what I call music cd's. I know everyone makes fun of them haha, but I enjoy the music on them. I'm not sure if that means I have terrible taste in music, but oh well. They make me happy :D
reunion, hope your boss doesn't ride you too hard!
Thanks for the contest!
Nebraska from my DVD wishlist because it was my favorite of all the Oscars films and I loved it!
Makeup from my Add-ons wishlist, because that makeup ain't cheap in the store and my current one is almost out.
"Evil Friends" by Portugal. The Man from my CDs wishlist, because I adore it and I am sick of having to listen to it over and over on spotify.
Walter Sobchak Funko Pop from my appropriately named Funko wishlist, because I have the Dude and Donny...but they are incomplete without Walter, man!
Epic Pyramid Head wall scroll from my Misc. list, because I love Pyramid Head, and I don't yet have his lovely self on my bedroom walls.
A track from the Nebraska soundtrack from my mp3 wishlist, because it was good relaxing music.
And finally, a Toothless plush! from my toys/games/plush wishlist. I friggin love Toothless and I want to snuggle him while I sleep.
The end!
Oh wow that photo is so majestic. I would love to just sit there and meditate for a few days or weeks...
I would really love this digital album if I win.
Thanks for the contest!! You rock :)
I keep replaying "When I'm at the pearly gates, this'll be on my videotape.." in my head. And seeing that you'll allow vinyl is amazing, so I'd love In Rainbows but if not, any of the songs on my wish list are equally appreciated. :) eighties!! Thanks for the contest!
Hi Mo! Alright, 8 interesting things....
I love RAoA because you guys are so nice and it's an awesome community. It's my favorite place on the internet.

What song makes you inexplicably happy?: The Mamas and the Papas - Make Your Own Kind of Music
This song was on an episode of Lost, and I had to track it down and download it. It's an old, old song that makes me that cult-level of calmness and peace and happy. Like, people about to drink the kool-aid calm.
Elation!
Edit: Funny true story; I totally made my kids sing If You're Happy and You Know It today during our reading of The Hunger Games because they were all reading with their heads down and I couldn't tell if they were sleeping or not. The more we sang, the more annoyed they became, but the more the heads began to pop up.
Yes, I'm using the school internet right now to enter contests. It's my lunch break. What of it?
would you pay $90 for it? because it was in fact reissued.
it's kinda pricey still, but i got mine free with rewards points, along with the aeroplane flies high. it has the original tracklist/order, is a beautiful box set, and is a better pressing than the original (which i also own).
I rolled /u/thecollegegirl and I have this album and LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!
Here is what I learned about her: She has an adorable doggie, loves tattoos, and has a relative that does porn! How is it that she and I haven't talked? LOL

>Tally Hall, Good & Evil
This has definitely been my favorite album of anything relatively new that I have. And even a lot of the older stuff as well. Barely beating out their older album ( Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum ) in sheer enjoyable music. Harmonies and creative melodies all about. Plus a few surprises lyrically.
( grabbed an image from google, camera battery is dead >_< )

>Tool, Lateralus
When going over all of my records, old and new, I still come back to Lateralus as my favorites. With a slightly different mix than the CD had, the drums sound cleaner, and the vocals don't seem like MJK is standing right behind you shouting. Not to mention it's Tool. And dangit I like Tool!
These aren't PARTICULARLY rare. But Lateralus is a hard to find beast sometimes, what with all the copies and fakes anyway. But Good & Evil had 500 printed, and as far as the band is concerned, that is all that ever will be printed. So while it's not particularly rare compared to the band's popularity. It's also not going to be found in a record store, anytime soon.
home
I've wanted this album for ages.
The thing I love best about my hometown is the bakery I live next to - it always smells of baking bread - delicious!
I'm so sorry. I lost a girlfriend of 5 years to a car accident, a few years ago-- made the same playlist, ate shit for a long while, made it through. Just don't recede from your friends and family and you'll be fine, eventually.
I know you didn't ask, but I spent a lot of time looking for the right thing to read. You're mileage may vary, but for my disposition the best thing was Marcus Aurelius's Meditations. Nothing like a little stoic philosophy to deal with terrible things.
For the music:
I'm convinced there is no sadder song, ever, then Dido's Lament from Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. It still makes me tear up when I hear it.
Beck's Sea Change album was a cornerstone for me-- Guess I'm Doing Fine summed up the numb, pretty well.
If it were today, Sufjan Stevens's Casimir Pulaski Day probably would have taken top spot, anything by Elliot Smith, and certain Avett Brothers songs (plenty already linked).
Post again when you're ready for some happier stuff.
exactly, i totally agree, but i feel that they make "limited" coppy's to show that the band dose in fact still have "hardcore" fans, or they just get kocky and think its all special and price it to fucking $500 or something (still pretty pissed that the smashing pumpkins:Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness remake is nearly $80 on vinyl, I MEAN LOOK AT THAT,AND IT'S NOT EVEN A LIMITED, OR SPECIAL EDITION COPPY!
http://www.amazon.com/Mellon-Infinite-Sadness-Smashing-Pumpkins/dp/B008Z9L94O/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1374892518&sr=1-2&keywords=smashing+pumpkins
PS. love the nirvana in utero reference!
I would prefer the Foo Fighter's album on my music list.
Eh, I have a lot of favorite song lyrics. Pearl Jam just writes a lot of meaningful and amazing lyrics. I think my favorite would be "No matter how cold the winter, there's a springtime ahead."
Thank you for the contest!
I would super love Lungs by Florence and the Machine but I have others your would suprise me with. :)
Thank you for hosting this every Monday. <3
Patton
You might want to keep an eye on this set from amazon.ca. The price has been fluctuating over the last few weeks, usually staying under or over $50. I've actually seen it hit $36 at one point. Right now its $48 with free shipping which is ok considering shipping from the states might cost more because its a box set. Good luck!

I love Kevin!! :D
From your list, as AWESOMELY AMAZING the LOTR stuff is, I think I have to go with this album because Mumford & Sons is absolutely THE BEST newer band out there. I loves them.
As for me, these are under $20 including shipping, but I need them for my Mrs. Peacock costume. :( If you add this headband, it would be right AT the $20 mark AND finish off the things I need for my costume, which would be fan-fucking-tastic! :D
Thank you for the contest, you're so smart! :D
When I first started out listening to Nirvana as a freshman in high school way back when, I listened to this greatest hits album. Helped me learn their most commercial stuff. AKA easy to listen to as some people have said in this thread. My favorite song is "Polly."
They have a really great self-titled greatest hits album here.
Happy Zambambo! and birthday!
this would be awesome
Well, I've searched out everything that everyone in Tally Hall has done that I know of, and you can definitely get Hawaii Part II and anything else you might be missing from this torrent
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:466324cea69d2b0bb126fd38ab97b98ce3eb8401&tr=udp://9.rarbg.com:2710/announce
(http://itorrents.org/torrent/466324CEA69D2B0BB126FD38AB97B98CE3EB8401.torrent)Of course I highly recommend that you buy Not A Trampoline, Sketches, both of Joe Hawley's albums when and if they become available for sale again, Marvin's Marvellous Mechanical Museum, Good & Evil, We Think We're Playing In A Band, and support the members of Tally Hall in their future endeavors.
In the Mountain in the Cloud is also sub-$15 right now: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0052T7I4A/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
I guess it's not much of a discount but still a good price for my (personal) favorite PTM album.
I love Kevin you like dice and so do I! Dice fetishist.
I demand surprises for my daughters birthday
*edit because ally's birthday is in a couple weeks
I'm really bad at picking favorites, but here's a few I love:
Adele
Tori Amos
Florence and the Machine
Janis Joplin
Karen O
Patsy Cline
Technically their latest cd had at least 13 fucking hits, thank you very much.
Also, some of us still know how to appreciate music in the album format. You know the way proper musicians do it and not plagiarist assholes who just want to line their pockets with cash with the minimum amount of work possible. And since you know the black eyed peas are rubbish, why even use them as a comparative measure?

That is a pretty impressive reissue. I remember getting that album when I was 13 or 14 as a double CD. I will say that the $90+ price tag on Amazon put its definitively into the category of a very-big-fan-only release.
eighties!
hah, I'm hanging out in TT right now, so my newest earworm (and obsession) is Sail by AWOLNATION. Which is good, because before that, I had Spice Girls stuck in my head, thanks to this video.
Here's some more that are about $13.50ea shipped. Some may be for Amazon Fr Prime Members only.

Smashing Pumpkins can be done.
There's a seller on amazon (fulfillment by amazon) selling like new box sets for $50 here
well, it looks like the post i made yesterday and the few people who said they got one, had it sell out at that price, its back to over 50. but here's the amazon link.

Cheap
So far the only real issue I've experienced with mine is the mastering on Zero, everything else sounds good.
Amazon is where I got my copy, or I think you can order them from Www.skyhillmusic.com.

lowest ever on Amazon! Thx

Is there a difference in sound between the 3LP and the 4LP currently available that makes the former more desirable? Or is it simply an issue of wanting an original pressing? I know the 2012 remaster had some bad quality issue, but from what I can tell most of that was fixed in 2014
Kinda a deal - only hit $55-60 a couple of very short times on Amazon. Typical sales are in the $70-75 range.

There was also a one-off sale a Canadian site had around $45 shipped, but I wouldn't expect that to come back any time soon.
Sure does. Gotta buy the whole album for The Boxer if you want it.
