Some are probably less good than others, but that's what I'd throw out there. A direct assault is not always the best way.
These are the classic books on Mary and on the Rosary. Their fairly cheap too. Don't know about getting them in Portuguese but they are very popular, I assume if you look around you will find a translation.
I've been reading "Mary, Mother of Son" (which comes in three volumes in print I. Modern Myths, II. First Guardian of Faith, III. Miracles and Devotions or a single-volume kindle edition) and I really like it. It's written by a former protestant and it's an easy read.
I also absolutely love "33 Days to Morning Glory" which you may not feel willing to "do" right now (consecration to Mary might feel intimidating at the moment) but if you're willing to read through it, it might be illuminating for why Catholics love Mary... It's definitely a more emotional-level book than a head-level book.
The best overall is probably The True Story of Fatima by Fr. John de Marchi. Another good one is Meet the Witnesses by John Haffert. I also highly recommend Fatima in Lucia’s Own Words.
Basically, you are not a body. If life after death is still a question, it means that you think you are a body. But there does come a point after which it is not a question, just a fact. You are Spirit.
At that point, your body is a "wholly neutral" thing (see "A Course in Miracles") because its forms aren't positive or negative. Just utilitarian. If you want to go get breakfast at McDonald's, it will help to have two legs. But other than that, you wouldn't be attached to any particular form. Just whatever's useful at the time.
As such, materializing and dematerializing at will would be something that happens without any mystery. Read Autobiography of a Yogi. The Great Babaji is known to materialize and dematerialize in locations as a means of travel. (Much faster than booking with kayak.com.)
Jesus doesn't really seem to materialize, per se, though I have no doubt that he could. Same with Mary. But they do appear to people and have throughout the centuries. Usually to encourage us. (I refer you to "The Great Apparitions of Mary" by Ingo Swann)
And the Babaji actually shows up in different forms (different physical descriptions). Sometimes he has facial hair, sometimes not. He also speaks all languages. (Known to converse with people in their native tongues). Really quite an interesting read. Really ... a must read. Pity it took me so many years to get around to it. It's more Christian than very many modernly-labelled "Christian" books.
The Reed of God is a classic.
EDIT: Sorry, wasn't paying attention to the feminism bit, just the women in bible. The book I linked above is an incredibly famous novel about Mary, written by a female author, but I wouldn't say it's 'feminist'.
Here's an book about feminism and how we can understand it from a Christian perspective. It can be pretty radical and liberal, but I think maybe your sister may enjoy it.
He's not /r/Reformed, but I really enjoyed reading The Real Mary: Why Evangelical Christians Can Embrace the Mother of Jesus by Scot McKnight.
There's a fantastic [book] (http://www.amazon.com/Mary-Second-Cardinal-Henry-Newman/dp/0895551810) that talks about Mary as the Second Eve here btw. Awesome book.
Yes it goes into depth on each mystery and has a short and long version prayer for each. The long versions have entire scripture readings you can recite.
It’s well worth the $3 it cost on amazon
Pray the Rosary https://www.amazon.com/dp/0899420524?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
A good read on this is Fr Benedict Groeschel's A Still, Small Voice: A Practical Guide on Reported Revelations. Here's him speaking more about this.
To get a look at the behind the scene process, you may want to read The Miracle Detectives.
Saw another kindle version that has 3 books in one: The Secret of the Rosary, True Devotion to Mary, and Total Consecration for $0.99
http://www.amazon.com/Devotion-Secret-Consecration-Annotated-ebook/dp/B00DZXD6NW/
Also found 7-in-1 St. Louis de Montfort books for $1.99 (also Kindle)
http://www.amazon.com/Montfort-Collection-Illustrated-Classics-ebook/dp/B00BXPNTU4/
Tina Peterson is in my parent's ward in Bountiful, UT. She is not a BYU professor, she is a stay-at-home mom who has a Bachelor's in Near Eastern studies from BYU. She collaborated on a book about Isaiah that anachronistically explains how Isaiah so very clearly and obviously talks about mormon prophecies.
I don't know if she can read hieroglyphics, but I do know that she can read Hebrew. She often holds classes for the ward/stake, teaching them how to read Hebrew.
She's pretty damn religious and is a weird TBM, honestly thinks that she prophesied the gender and personality of her first two children, and is generally full of it.
I’d recommend the work by Aiden Nichols “There is No Rose: The Mariology of the Catholic Church”
https://www.amazon.com/There-No-Rose-Mariology-Catholic/dp/1451484461
Read some of the reviews on the product page that give a good synopsis of the book and give a glimpse into how profound Mary’s role is as co-redemptrix.
I do not think that Christianity can be understood without Mary.
Thanks for the info!
I can't find Lauds in my version (Kindle version, published by Catholic Way), Prime and Vespers are the main ones, and the little hours at the end (Terce, Sext, Nones, Compline, Matins).
