I just came back from visiting family in South Asia, and I've learnt a lot from this experience lol. For the most part, I now have a general idea of what to travel with the next time I'm leaving home.

Make-up in particular was somewhat challenging because I actually brought a lot of stuff that I did not end up using, which bummed me out, 'cause I brought more makeup than skincare, which is something that I overlooked and ended up stressing my face out a lot more. For me, I had 5 weddings to attend, but because of the humid weather, I rarely ever tried with makeup and kept everything simple and light but nice enough to look good for the events.

Though, I highly HIGHLY suggest packing skincare because weather and environmental changes usually wreak's havoc on the skin.

First things first, I would invest in a good travel makeup bag. I used the Sonia Kashuk Weekender bag and it's worth every penny. Made everything easier 'cause it would fit a lot of my stuff without it feeling over stuffed. I also brought a travel makeup mirror which was great 'cause it helped out whenever there was a power outage. It had lights for me to still do my makeup while waiting for the electricity to come back on. Both things I recommend!

For makeup, I took Sunscreen, a Clinique BB cream for light makeup days, and my special occasion foundation which is also my HG, the Hourglass Immaculate Liquid to Powder Foundation. ABH Brow pencil, Eyeliners (two eye pencils, and two liquid liners), a mascara, 3 lip liners, and around 4-6 lipsticks (mainly liquid lipsticks and like two bullet lipsticks). My NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, blush, bronzer, and loose powder.

I took my Lorac pro 3 palette and my z-palette. I honestly recommend the lorac pro palettes for those who travel, just because it's so versatile and the looks you can do range from neutral to glam with their shade selections, PLUS, some of the lighter colors look amazing and work great as highlighters.

Tools wise, I took my lash curler, three dual headed brushes, a beauty blender, flat top foundation brush, a bronzer brush and a fluffy brush for loose powder.

There are a lot of factors going into the process, ranging from occasions, to weather, to how long the stay is, and if there is sufficient time to get ready. It really just comes down to convenience, and what your perspective of that is. I had to stay there for a while and had a lot more to deal with, compared to the casual traveller who's just going down to The Bahamas for a good time, y'know?

But aside from the makeup, please, PLEASE don't skimp on skincare even if you already have good skin!

Safe travels my dear! :D

Ooh happy half birthday ;)

  • Bored on the internet: Well besides reddit, I sometimes check out TV Tropes, it's super easy to get lost in there!

  • Perfect birthday meal: Something I don't get to have often, like bison or moose or deer meat, with some nice roasted veggies (potatoes and carrots and garlic and butter) and a yummy salad (mixed greens and cheese and almonds and apricot/blueberries/strawberries for extra yums) and of course DESSERT!! Caaaaaake (any kind really, Black Forest or Tiramisu or Angel Food) and ice cream!

  • Item from wishlist: this compact mirror is just under $20 OR this BB plus this compact equal to $20. I put 2 choices because I couldn't decide, so if I win then you can decide ;)

  • Random factoid: The new Zelda game on the 3DS is going to have items that you can rent or buy! I love Zelda and I'm so excited for this game :D

  • Flash This!

    Thanks for hosting! :)

Replying to my own comment with some purchasing recommendations:

2. Next level folding chair. The locking feature is sick, most comfortable camp chair I've owned.

My goto folding table. I've got a bigger 8 foot one if I'm camping with a big group but this small one is perfect for 1-4 people.

3. Highly recommend this charger. Will charge a typical iPhone like 5 times and has QC 3.0 built in (quick charge, which is a nice feature at a festival). Currently on sale for $40 if you clip the coupon, I've seen it as low as $30, they'll probably go on sale for black Friday and Christmas too.

5. Bring a box of these babies and if it gets cold, you've suddenly made like 40 friends.

6. Something like this is a good choice for makeup. In case you have to go back to camp and freshen up, the light is a nice touch.

  1. I usually just bring fruit, sandwich stuff (bread, pb&j,turkey & cheese) snacks(chips, jerky, granola bars) water and pedilyte. Stuff you don't have to cook. Every time I brought stuff to cook it just went to waste cause I'm either tired at the end of the night or hungover in the am and just don't feel like cooking. Plus the vendor food is pretty good and you don't have to pack extra shit like a grill and cooking stuff.

  2. Absolutely bring a canopy and chairs. Half the fun of camping at a fest is hanging out at your site and making new friends with your neighbors. Half my festival squad now is ppl I met at festivals in the past.

  3. This is personal opinion but bring battery packs to charge your phone and fill your tank up right before you get to the fest. That way you can charge your phone off your car in the am. The charging stations are cool but you either have to sit at em and wait for your phone to charge missing sets or trust a stranger that it's gonna be there when you get back.

  4. I have like 4 plastic tubs with all my gear and a foldable table. That way it makes it easier to pack my car I just throw the tubs in the car and go. At the site they fit nicely under my table. When I leave the site I throw everything in the tubs and put the lid on. Lock valuables in my car (radio, money, favors, anything you don't wanna lose) and go. Most the time every one is plur but I have had shit stolen at fests before.

5.Here is a great camping checklist.

6.My girl uses this https://www.amazon.com/CERSLIMO-Tape-lights-Dimmable-Countertop-Batteries/dp/B07F2C228M/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=battery+light+up+mirror&qid=1573487452&sprefix=Battery+light+up+mi&sr=8-3 We also bring a bunch of baby wipes to clean ourselves with at the end of the night. And just whenever you wanna feel fresh.

I used to shower shave regularly, and only stopped because my new house doesn't quite have the dimensions for it.

I would take a rubber mug and fill it with warm water. Put my razor in there to heat it up, and if I was using a boar brush my brush as well to soak. This mug has been with me from the start of my shaving career and it's a brute - unbreakable, decent grip on it, insulates pretty well. If you want to go cheap, a collapsible silicone mug from Walmart can be had for like $1 and works decently well.

You probably shave by feel with the cartridge. I used something like this for a mirror. It works well enough - it will fog periodically, you just hold it under the hot shower stream to clear it and reheat the surface and you've got another 5 min before it fogs again. Plenty of time to knock out a shave. There are other designs which have a reservoir behind the mirror surface; hot water goes in the reservoir, keeping it heated for the duration of the shower. I haven't used these because it's not a big deal to clear the mirror once during a shave.

My technique was basically to keep my soap and brush in a back corner of the shower, in one of the "shadows" of the shower stream so the lather wouldn't get washed out. I face lather so I just faced away from the shower stream, or angled the showerhead so that I could stand without water getting on my face lather. From there, everything else is the same except simpler cleanup. (The mug helps to rinse the brush really well, as well.)

Because my beard had less time to hydrate (compared to shaving after the shower), I kept some glycerin soap in the shower and used that to soften up and hydrate my beard. My order of operations was to wash and rinse my scalp hair, then glycerin soap my beard and leave it on my beard while I washed the rest of my body. Then load my brush, rinse my beard, and begin building lather on my face.

The one thing you'll lose from shower shaving is the sound. When you get the right angle with the DE you can hear the cutting action...it's one of the more soothing elements, and can help guide your technique when you're newer. But it's not a critical element, and shouldn't be a determining factor in whether or not you shower-shave. Everyone has their ritual, and that was mine.

Enjoy!

Nature has always had a way of making me really happy. I just finished an internship in Cape Town, South Africa. It was a really difficult time, and I had a lot of conflicting feelings while I was there. But people consistently said to me that Cape Town was the most beautiful city in the world, and I believe it. There was just something amazing about waking up to the view of a gorgeous mountain, then driving to my internship site along to coast. Even when I was having the most terrible day, that view really helped to put things into perspective. It was just beyond words!

Sooo, since it was beyond words, I'll show some pictures instead! Here is an astounding view from an area known as Hout Bay. And here is another from that same place! This was a view from Table Mountain. And penguins! Who ISN'T happy when penguins around? This penguin right here was my buddy. He even tried to eat my hair! And here is a gorgeous flower from Kirstenbosch Gardens.

If I am chosen, I would love this item. Thank you so much for hosting!

Can you feel the love

I recently went into Muji and found some nice looking mirrors for alright prices. They have a pretty good selection of mirrors here.

I bought this mirror from Daiso, I wouldn't recommend it. The mirror had a really strange off-putting smell like burning plastic or garbage on the mirror part in the first week and the hinge broke a few months later, I'm still using it because it's all I got but I'm eyeing the Muji ones. I've got quite a few of Muji products and they haven't disappointed me yet in terms of quality.

I've been eyeing this mirror for quite a long time, every once in a while it has a 20-30% off sale but every time it has I didn't have the guts to go for it. It's got pretty good reviews and it seems promising, the features are cool.

Girls love beauty care. I pick a portable LED makeup mirror for my girlfriend. She loves that one. Might be a good choice for your girlfriend: https://www.amazon.com/Mirthee-Lighted-Portable-Magnification-Dimmable/dp/B07FNSDH5V/ref=sr_1_5_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1540370561&sr=8-5&keywords=mirthee

Did she do her hair that day? Did you show her some of your pictures in a similar style ahead of time? Did you deliver on matching the style that they (probably) saw ahead of time? If you followed through on capturing the moment and processing the images in a way that's consistent with your normal work flow, then I'd say you're in the clear.

If she really wants a reshoot, offer another session at your normal rate. If she doesn't like that idea, you could offer a discount on another session as compensation since she's not happy with how she did her hair that day.

How did you bill her? If you gave her an invoice, make sure to write the full price and then deduct a discount (Friends & Family usually works well). This way, they know they're getting a discount. That doesn't quite apply here, but it's good advice for any future work of this nature.

Also, I'd recommend keeping hairspray, bobby pins, hair clips, and hair ties. It'll cost you about $20 up front for all of those things but you'll be able to save yourself hours and hours later in editing hair and your clients will be so much happier with you during the shoot. Also, I'd recommend keeping a mirror in your kit as well.

Here I'll save you some research time. I've been through many "fogless" shower mirrors and this one is by far the best. Suction cup holds strong with a piece of packing tape underneath and the mirror hangs on the suction cup. Put the mirror under the water for a few seconds and it stays fog-free for 5-10 minutes, plenty of time to lather/shave. Small enough to put in my travel bag (I kept the original packaging) and truly "unbreakable" - I've dropped it many many times.

Mirror this mirror from amazon i just got on monday. Its great. The lightening is really nice. My room is kinda dark so it really helps out. Its a nice size. Not to expensive either

u/MerryKerry · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

That's a really nice gift idea. There's a Zadro travel mirror on Amazon that has good ratings. A little pricey though. I would check for a warranty or buy from a store that accepts returns, maybe.

u/redheadedmermaid73 · 2 pointsr/RandomActsofMakeup

I think this Jasmine mirror and this Ariel mirror are gorgeous. I wish they weren't so expensive though.

I also happen to think my cat Nani is really pretty.

At 6'4" a coupe is a bit of a squeeze, but I do fit and love driving it. However, the mirror was designed with the average motorist in mind, so it's not only nearly useless since I can only see the road maybe 100' behind, but a hazard, since it blocks my forward-right view, notably when at an intersection. So I replaced it with a four-inch compact mirror mounted on a magnetic dash phone mount for under $20.

I'm still debating about what to do with the stock mirror/antenna, since upon taking it apart I discovered that the clown nose stem goes through the circuit board, and is pressed in, so not something readily removed. I'd also have to clip and solder the wires since the connector doesn't fit through the hole. So a bit daunting, and mostly irreversible, which makes me a bit nervous, especially given the relative rarity (and > $200 OEM cost) of this particular mirror. Any suggestions there would be welcome!

Here is the list of gear. It is meant for both myself and my wife, so I doubled up in some places. (Links where I have them)

Here's the cheapo, manual version you can get on Amazon. Just hold it to the water to heat up, works alright!

After reading a bunch of reviews and comparing mirrors, I ended up purchasing a mirror for $23.79 off Amazon. It's got LED lights, has a touch screen button on the front, auto shut off, adjustable lighting, button in the back for turning it off for travel or other reasons, comes with a microfiber cloth to clean finger prints and travel pouch, it's a 180 degree picture frame style which is nice for travel, runs off both USB and batteries, and has a detachable 10x mirror. I like it for many reasons, but it doesn't feel like I'm breaking the bank now or if something should happen to it in the future. Worth looking at for a temporary or permanent staple to your makeup area.

girrrl (and sibling with the sprouting face plumage) this is totally worth the $10 [unbreakable shower mirror] (https://amazon.com/dp/B0083VCV1O).

I usually have around 3-4 lipsticks in my purse and rotate them out depending on what colors I'm feeling like wearing or depending on the season. right now it's Urban Decay Vice in Brat, elf Matte Lip Color in Natural, and NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul. I also finally bought a decent compact mirror and I love it to death. no more awkward pulling out my phone and using its godawful front camera as a mirror!! yesss.

u/Lurkndog · 2 pointsr/bugout

You will want a small mirror somewhere in your bag, and some tweezers. This is in case you get something in your eye, and you have to deal with it yourself.

The mirror could be a tiny signalling mirror, or just a compact one for makeup.

u/thisismyusername007 · 10 pointsr/thingsforants

It's called the Mirror Book Air!

OMG guys, look at this one!
