my favorite stuff from all over in no particular order:
asa and ayo are female singer/songwriters from africa who sing in english, but are worth a listen.
oliver mtukudzi is from zimbabwe with an incredible timbre to his voice. i love vieux diop, a singer and kora player from mali who's songs i find relaxing and beautiful. vieux farka toureis also from mali, and sometimes he makes you think his guitar is an electric kora.
seconding manu chao, lots of fun.
rodrigo Y gabriela are a guitar duo from mexico city. they do a lot of flamenco type stuff. this is them doing a flamenco stairway to heaven--they also do a couple of metallica songs. willie and lobo are another mexican duo (guitar and violin) that has more of a gypsy feel to their flamenco. they also do some great (wordless) ballads that are excellent for relaxation.
cuba's los van van makes great salsa, but for a really fun latinesque sampler, get this.
zap mama is from belgium, does songs in many languages. I think the older stuff is less "poppy." les nubians is a sister duo that sings french (pop) hip hop. they've worked with erykah badu and the roots.
outback doesn't exist anymore, but it's great didge background music, but if you like the didge, check out this freak. i mean that in a good way.
hamza el din has passed, but his nubian oud music is timeless.
if you like meditating or just zoning out, snatam kaur will take you to another planet--she's the real deal.
celso fonseca, ceu, and bossacucanova are doing contemporary bossa nova. great for lazy afternoons or a romantic dinner.
i really love seu george, but mostly listen to his portuguese bowie covers from 'the life aquatic.'.
you probably know ladysmith black mambazo from putumayo. their songs range from poignant ballads to energetic, makes-you-wanna-jump-around songs. to get a deeper range of the style and their south african contemporaries, check this out. great, great stuff.
i know there's a shit-ton of hawaiian music, but probably someone from there can help you sort out the good from bad. if you want to check out some beautiful tahitian music, emma terangi was one of the best & most beautiful. here she is later in life, but having a good time on a RFO show. looks like a tahitian hee-haw.
lastly, lee everton may be a white guy from switzerland who sings in english, but his reggae fits right in with donavan frankenreiter or jack johnson.
happy listening,

Sounds like fun! I'll have to do this later
1.) Something that is grey: Pelican Gray Nail Polish. (on private WL)
2.) Something reminiscent of rain: Shower Curtain is a barrier between the bathroom tiles and cascading, rain-like, waterfall that flows from the showerhead. (on dream WL)
3.) Something food related that is unusual: Candy Mold. Chocolate frogs, anyone? (on under $5 WL)
4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!): Ice Cream Maker. No ice cream for me because I started keto last week. My friends and family would benefit from this when I make them some delicious ice cream. (on dream WL)
5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!: The Knife of Never Letting Go. It's book one of the Chaos Walking trilogy, which has rave reviews. Apparently it's a dark, dystopian book full of suspense. (on high priority WL)
6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!: Laser Finger Beams (not on WL)
7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...): Westside Warrior Nail Polish. Lions, which are really big cats, are warriors of the jungle. (on under $5 WL)
8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it: Origami Star Paper. I like folding these, but once I make them into stars, I literally have nothing to do with them. There's jars of them all across my house and all I can do is look at them (on under $5 WL)
9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?: Song from Iron Man 3 Soundtrack. Everyone should see it because Iron Man + Tony Stark + RDJ = <3 (on digital WL)
10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.: Spin-the-shot. If zombies attack, I would need to be drunk, so this would come in handy for some last minute fun before I turn into a brain eating zombie. Let's face it, I'm not surviving a zombie attack... (on $5-$10 WL)
11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals: Coconut Oil. Everyone on the keto subreddit raves about this stuff. Being a newbie to this lifestyle, I feel that if so many people had great results using this oil, that it would help with my goals. (on $11-$25 WL)
12.) One of those pesky Add-On items: Anti-stress face mask (not surprisingly, found on my add-on WL)
13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?: Globe Bar. I would feel like a super cool James Bond-esque spy who would have a secret room hidden behind a bookshelf. Plus I love alcohol and globes. (on dream WL)
14.) Something bigger than a bread box: Desk Easel. (on $11-25 WL)
15.) Something smaller than a golf ball: Earrings. (on private WL)
16.) Something that smells wonderful: Pink Punch Baby Lips (on add-ons WL)
17.) A (SFW) toy: Kindle. I would consider this a techie toy. (on dream WL)
18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school: Fun Colored Pens. (on add-on WL)
19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be: Paints. My current obsession is painting! (on $11-25 WL)
20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand: Mug. I love love love this literature mug. I not only love the varying typography all over it, but I think that there are some really striking first lines of literature. (on $11-25 WL)
BONUS
1.) Real name: PM sent
2.) Made in Oregon: Handwarmer Mug
Edit: raffle phrase - fear cuts deeper than swords
by Julia Cameron is one of my favorite books on creative unblocking for both writers AND artists! I go back to it whenever Im in a slump!
There are plenty of good clean songs out there. I make an effort to find them and add them to the rotation of music my kids and I listen to. I often let them choose songs and also introduce new songs to them.
One of their early favorites - (I have 5 - at the time the oldest was 11 the youngest was 4) and Wheel in the Sky by Journey was often requested. And lately Ozzy's Bark at the Moon has cropped up as a favorite!
I have always enjoyed musicals - so the various Disney soundtracks are always good - plus other musicals - If you have not heard the songs from the first season of Lazytown. There are some good fun songs.

Jump 5 is fun and there are plenty of Disney spin-offs that have polished catchy tunes. The Disney Fairy videos have songs often by well known artists. Recent favorite:
Who I Am ((From "The Pirate Fairy")) by Natasha Bedingfield
http://www.amazon.com/Who-From-The-Pirate-Fairy/dp/B00J58EC52
Plenty of suggestive songs currently and historically.

and it is important that you are aware of the content, that is the first step.

As you can tell my kids and I listen to a wide range. I haven't quite gotten worked into some of my favorites. The recent Disney Planes film featured the songs by AC/DC and surprisingly they ask for them also...
Wow. I hope you liked it.
OK - here are some other good ones
Mask of Zorro
Braveheart
The Mission
Con Air - good guitar motivational music
Inception
Lord of the Rings
If you like soundtracks enough, eventually you'll find that you have a favorite composer. For me, I generally like anything by Howard Shore or Hans Zimmer.
Edit1 - and now I'm listening to the Inception soundtrack...look what you've made me do!
Edit 2 - and now I've totally gone down the rabbit hole. I found these playlists on Amazon Prime.
I created my wishlist just after joining RAOA last November. The oldest item was added November 6th and it is the Cineplexity board game.. They are available used for $15, but if that doesn't suit your fancy on the off chance that I am the winner then please select from any other item on my wish list that looks good.
I considered taking the approach of oldest item by finding something that is ancient in and of itself, not that was on my list the longest. Then you have the Les Miserables soundtrack which is based on the book by Victor Hugo that was published in 1862. But, since the musical was not written until the 80s, we could instead go with the film Father Goose that was made in 1964. Following that logic, Cary Grant is in the film and he was born January 18, 1904.
So, the ancient item in my wishlist is Cary Grant - added to the world January 18, 1904.
I've never been to Disney World, so I can't really share a memory.
Well where I live there's a restraunt named Big Bowl. It's an Asian place and on the front of their build, jutting from the wall, is a massive bowl with huge chopsticks coming out.
So my brother and a few of his buddies were out drinking one night, and while walking home from the bar, they saw the glorious massive bowl.
They decided it would be a good idea to scale the side of the building and climb inside. Now once they were inside, of course, they all fell asleep.
They woke up the next morning super early due to glaring sun, and they all climbed down and stumbled home.
He loves telling that story. lol
I'd love this Fast and Furious soundtrack!
town drunk
Thanks for the contest!
And for the 25th anniversary edition of the soundtrack, he composed an entire album's worth of new Blade Runner music, so he probably feels like he's done with it. Most of the fans didn't much care about the bonus album, because there's no nostalgia for them, but personally, I loved it and felt like I was getting to experience even more of that world.
The adventure game was even better in that regard.
Overly rocking out to slow music is distracting. I love metal, some punk, some rockabilly, some alternative & some techno. My favorite bands are Avenged sevenfold, powerman 5000,volbeat,him,& the murder dolls. I have this on my secondary wl,I enjoy these songs and have three specific songs from it I have been wanting to listen to but they don't offer the songs individually. :( poo on them lol. If you buy the CD version it comes with the mp3 version free :) you're awesome!

|name|David E. Sugar|
|about artist|(also known as David Sugar) Regarded by his peers as one of the most creative artists around, David E. Sugar has firmly cemented himself as one of the most promising talents on the UK underground. A multi-talented singer, songwriter, producer; he's the latest signing to Rob da Bank’s label Sunday Best. David initially made a name for himself as a pioneer of ‘Chip-tune’ (think early 90’s computer game soundtracks dragged through an iMac) with the help of his Nintendo Game Boy and other toys like ET’s favourite the ‘Speak & Spell’. Probably this. It's on my WL, but I find myself wanting to read it more and more. It's cheap enough that I can buy it without feeling guilty; I've just been putting it off.
