Your best bet would be to get some extra wide grosgrain ribbon, that way you don't have to deal with doing anything about all the long edges fraying. You can use clear glue applied thin so its invisible to keep the cut ends from fraying. Like this 3" Just make sure 3" will work for your patches. 4" and up is out there but harder to find. It won't look perfectly accurate, but it'll work.

What model Remington? THe older ones normal take a smaller spool which you cant easily find. However you can get the Universal Ink ribbon and respool it if your typewriter still has its old ink ribbon in it. IF not I have a few empty spools of that size I could give you.
