For garments, you will want to get a sewing machine. Even the finest clothing in the world usually has some machine stitching.
For small, hand-sewn projects, you might enjoy Zakka. Here's one book, but there are others on Amazon.

Personally, I always love doing traditional designs. This website has an excellent (though small) list of them, sorted by difficulty. This site has some others, and if you have some time to wait for shipping, there are a lot of great books on pysanky design. I think this is the one my sister has, but I'm not positive.
For the crafty hobbies, I'd suggest going to a Michaels or some other craft store and check out the books they have. I did that a few years ago, picked up this book on Chinese knotting. The supplies weren't very expensive and I really enjoyed learning to make the knots/choosing the beads. I even sold a few of my necklaces and earrings.
I had to move this item from another wishlist I made. I so want to put together a Steam Punk Outfit. Thanks for the contest!
