I ended up going with the lockey mechanical patio lock - but it's hard to change the code (requires disassembly) and some guests definitely have trouble with it.

I also considered putting a wifi/smart lockbox by the side of the door with the key on a string - the idea would be the guests never take the key, they just unlock the box with their code and then use the key. Annoying, but probably ok. I might do this next time.
