sorry for the confusion.. you are correct in my SAS drives...
def not in IT Mode... actual card used is the following:

there really was no hocus pocus involved w/ getting the card to work... windows automatically took it and treated everything as jbod... storage spaces ate all that up and spat me out what i have today
as for network related slowdowns... i haven't gotten to the point of testing outside stuff yet... it's just transferring from my wd4100 to this new server... where network isn't saturated (50%) and disk writes maxing out at 100% at ~45MB/s
Ahh ok, so I could get something like this
https://www.amazon.com/10Gtek-Internal-Express-Controller-SAS2008/dp/B01M2AC40Y/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1SBB3WEINCZ3F&keywords=hba+controller&qid=1555086486&s=electronics&sprefix=hba%2Celectronics%2C170&sr=1-1
And each port/cable could handle 4 drives?
That doesnt seem too bad.
What you will want is card like below. It's a sas/sata HBA (host bus Adapter) card. SAS is the big brother to sata. From the photo you see what looks like 2 ports. Those are not sata. Look close and you will see a special type cable called a 'breakout' cable. One plug on one end which turns into 4 sata plugs on the other. The card below supports 8 sata drives.
The card:

The cable:

I like the LSI cards, but certainly there are lots of others.
