Hey girl. If you're looking for warmth, I feel ya. I'm a native Californian moving to Missoula, MT this fall and I found out what the word "wicking" means for the first time in my life. Have had to do the wardrobe overhaul when all the winter stuff was on sale this past month so I can provide some input I've received from my Chicagoan/Bostonian/Canadian friends.

Your winters will not be nearly as intense as mine, so take my suggestions with a grain of salt. Plus, depending on where you will be in CO, most of the weather seems really nice. On my way to MT, I had a stopover in Denver last September, and it was sunny and beautiful, while in MT it was 50 degrees already!!

Inner layers: I got a bunch of Uniqlo Heattech underlayers. I think these will work for letting me keep my cotton clothes. I was also recommended fleece-lined tights for winter, either to wear under pants or with dresses.

Mid-layers and outer-layers: Get something with down. I've got a light down vest and a puffy down jacket. Both are water resistant. Sweaters and cardigans are also awesome. Is there rain where you're going? Consider a parka to go over everything. You can still look cute when you step inside and remove it. Another thing I've had recommended to me a bunch is a nice wool coat/peacoat. This last thing will probably look great on you wherever you go, and lots of people should definitely consider having one for life! Writer/poet Adrienne Rich complimented mine. I will never get rid of it!

Socks/gloves: look for smart wool. Seriouslytho. It's expensive but these are investments, and they will LAST you. I've been wearing mine in CA for when we get chilly nights in my apartment. They aren't even itchy. Californians don't like to pay PG&E so we pay in other ways. For gloves, I have gloves that go over gloves. Gloveception. You probably won't need that.

Hats: I have a couple Neff beanies. You have a lot of options with hats. Also I'm totally getting these ear muffs that stay on your head, which you can wear under hats and hoodies.

Boots: I'm personally getting Timberlands because they're great for snow and ice, they have a lot of tread, but I also live in Oakland and would love to take them back and look like a rapper because they're so stylin.
