As others have said, a decent gaming pc will run Fusion great. An i7 processer and a NVIDIA 1050 graphics card or better will handle just about all you can throw at it. I built my current CAD desktop back in 2013 to run AutoCad and Inventor and it handles those like a champ, but just falls short with Fusion. I bought this laptop a few months ago and it runs circles around my desktop.

I feel your pain... I just bought this to play classic on. My wife is very tech illiterate and told her it was only $400. She is extremely frugal and her hobby is to hate my gaming hobbies.
This looks like the deal I have been looking out for.
Can anyone tell me if there is any difference between this one on Amazon?

Also, what is Walmart's return policy like?

If you are still looking, if you get something like this, it meets the minimum requirements for the game, and if you get something like this, you should be good for max settings, including most of late game. And don’t forget that the game is still in early access, and will probably have lots of performance updates in the future.
How about this acer aspire 7 not sure how its heat mangement though.
Hey,
Another cheaper alternative is the Acer Aspire 7, it has the same specs as the Dell G5 but only 8 GB of RAM. It will still be very good editing. In addition, it is much lighter (only 5.1lbs) which should be a lot better for portability. Sadly it is not touchscreen. 4K editing should be great with the 6-core processor.
If it's not a problem, could you look at this laptop?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CZC81F6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.CH3Cb1GYSYXZ
It's 150 dollars more expensive, but I'm willing to spend more if it's a better option. Aesthetically, I think it fits my requirements better, but if the specs are not that much better than the Dell (or worse!) then it's not worth the money.
Hell yeah, Thinkpads! They're still around except the internals are better now! They actually have some sort of deal on now...
If you're getting a laptop with a decent GPU it probably won't be thin unless you're willing to throw a bunch of money at it. Otherwise (in a similar price range) the Surface Laptop is also an option although don't expect to run seriously graphics intensive workloads on it because it doesn't have a dedicated graphics processor.
The Dell XPS 13" is a great computer but once again is >$1000.
TL;DR, if you want great performance it is tough to find in a thin light laptop without spending a heck of a lot of money. Definitely don't drop serious cash on a laptop with a crummy bottom of the lineup (read: not worth your money) Nvidia GPU though, spending the $200 on the Acer Aspire 7 looks like it would go a long way in this situation. IMO that's a pretty good price for the specs you're getting although I don't know much about Acer's build quality so that can be up for debate. My thinking is that if you're going to spend $700 on a laptop spending $900 isn't the end of the world if it will last you longer and open you up to some video work in the future (if need be) which that hardware would definitely allow for.
For 1'000USD we can get you something pretty great, probably with a GTX1050Ti, Acer has the best offers and since you don't care about weight, you should go with this Acer Aspire 7 or if you don't mind spending 50$ more over your budget, you can get an amazing GTX1060 in this Acer Predator Helios 300.
Hey there! I would recommend this Acer Aspire 7 for you.
I saw in your post that you are a computer science student, me too! Something I really think is cool about the Acer Aspire 7 is its modern specs and IPS display, which I know are really important to me.
Things that would make me want to buy this laptop if I were in your position include:
In a nutshell, the large high quality display, modern specs, and nice, full size keyboard makes this what I believe to be the best option for you. Good luck finding the perfect laptop!

You can check out the Dell G3579 G3579-5941BLK-PUS as a replacement for your stolen laptop. Its GTX 1050 will be more than enough for your emulators and non-intensive games. It will also manage photo and video editing easily. The SSD + HDD combo should suit you well as you get the speed of the SSD while being able to store your photos, music and videos on the HDD
Screen Size : 15 inches
Processor : 3.9 GHz Intel Core i5
Graphics : Nvidia GTX 1050
RAM : 8 GB
Weight : 5.95 lbs
Storage Type : 1 TB HDD+128 GB SSD

From your list, the Thinkpad A485 is the best in terms f build quality and durability but its processor is below the others. That would lean me towards the Acer Aspire 7 from your options
How do you think it compares to the more professional-looking, lighter Acer Aspire 7 Casual Gaming Laptop? Would there be a noticeable difference in performance? Specs seem similar enough.
Hey! So this may be a longer post but I’ll try to get you lots of useful information. At $800-1000 you can get a great machine for gaming and work, however the ‘best’ laptops go for $2000+, so obviously there are some cuts somewhere. Every laptop in this range has tradeoffs, between battery life, performance, and screen
if you want something that can function as a business laptop you will not only be looking at functionality but also the looks of the laptop. Most gaming laptops unfortunately are designed to appeal to teens and have led lights and other coloring that can look weird at a business setting.
Regardless of what I said above, these are some basic specs you would be looking at:
CPU: For your CPU I would not settle for less than an 8th generation Intel Processors (preferably something around the i7-8750H). (Ps as a general note laptop CPU’s that end in H are generally better for gaming than those ending in other letters)
RAM: for RAM you’ll be lookin at 12+ Gb of DDR4/DDR5 memory (preferably 16Gb)
Memory Drives: Definitely would want an SSD, faster load and boot times. Maybe a combo of 128 or 512 SSD with a 1Tb HDD
GPU: I would be looking for an GTX 1060, 1070, or 1080. These would be capable of running most modern games at High frame rates.
For some laptop suggestions I have these:
(No particular order)
Dell G7 15
Acer Aspire 7
I only have time to research the two above. But look around. You can find the laptop best for you.
One last thing you may want to look into is an external GPU. If your laptop has a thunderbolt 3 port you can use a laptop that just has a CPU in it (light and thin), but can game when you’re at your desk at home by plugging in the GPU. If you were to do this it may end up being slightly more expensive, depending on how you go around it. You can now get a new tower for $2-300 and get an GTX 2080 for it and it will run really well. It is up to you what you want to do however. I wish you luck!
In that budget range and based on the fact that you want to do some light gaming, I would recommend getting a dedicated graphics card. This Acer Aspire 7 if you could go a few bucks over budget, would do a great job in what you do.
Budget: 600-1000ish
Country: USA
Screen size: 15.6 in preffered but can go smaller
Screen resolution: Not too important, decent 1080 panel prefered
Touch screen: Not important
Weight: ~5lbs or lighter
For college, want to do some light gaming(League, maybe others)
and schoolwork(CS major)
but also want to be somewhat portable. No need for a heavy gamer rig. What I found so far, but open for suggestions
