Acer Nitro 5

  • 15.6" Full HD IPS Display
  • Intel Core i5-7300HQ Quad core CPU
  • GeForce GTX 1050i GPU
  • 8GB DDR4 RAM
  • 256GB SSD Storage

The system has a Fast SSD which will let your system boot and load quickly. The IPS display will give wide viewing angles, and you will be able to multitask well with 8 GB of RAM and a powerful HQ processor

A GTX 1050 is a graphics card. I have found some laptops on Amazon that I would recommend:

This Acer Nitro has good specs for the money and isn't too thick but it does look quite gamer which can be a turn off. - https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-Gaming-Laptop-i5-7300HQ-Windows/dp/B071JLXGCW/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1521221922&sr=1-1&keywords=Acer+Nitro+5

This Asus looks like it might be slimmer and looks more normal but it has a slightly worse graphics card but has more storage. A 1tb SSHD instead of a faster but smaller 256gb SSD. https://www.amazon.ca/Asus-Powerful-i5-7300HQ-Quad-Core-Processor/dp/B076H6X5SS/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1521221963&sr=1-1&keywords=ASUS+FX503VD

The MSI one is very pretty imo but only has the 2gb 1050 instead of the 2gb 1050 ti.

This Asus one is very thin and looks sorta like a macbook. It has a 2gb GTX 1050 but it sure is beautiful.

This MSI one has the i7 instead of the i5 in most of them but doesn't look as good imo and only has the 2gb. It is also $100 more but the i7 is quite a lot better.

If you find a laptop that you think you like just reply to me with it and i'll check it out for you too see if it's worth the money. The main thing is too look at the specs and look at the build to see what you would prefer. These laptops will run almost anything that you would run on your Mac and if the software isn't avaliable which is very rare it would have alternatives. Windows usually is a lot better than MacOS.

You said about editing videos which the i7 would be better for but it wouldn't be a massive difference since they have the same GPU. The GTX 1050 would get over 100fps on Fortnite. They would all run Microsoft office and stuff like that. Hope this helps

Edit: Changed the links to the same laptops for Canada. They are more expensive due to the Canadian dollar not being as good but still a good deal.

Hi,

Based on your requirements I have made this noteb search went for a quad-core CPU and dedicated GPU.

You can see and change the search parameters using the "Refine results" button in the upper-left part of the search results page. You can also click on the laptops for more information.

An option for you could be this one: Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G comes with a quad-core CPU, basic dedicated GPU, FHD LED IPS display, 1 TB HDD and room for an SSD, 1 memory slot soldered and 1 that can be upgraded, over 5H battery life, plastic chassis and Standard or Backlit Chiclet keyboard - found it on Amazon.ca for 835 CAD. This is a budget laptop so build quality is not that great, it will get the job done, but I don't know about its longevity.

Another alternative could be this one: Acer Aspire Nitro 5 AN515-51 has a much better GPU and it comes with a SSD and 2 memory slots - this one is a gaming laptop. You can find it on Amazon.ca for 935 CAD. Same as above - budget laptop - for this one I'd recommend going for a cooling pad.

Here is a comparison between them: Acer Aspire Nitro 5 AN515-51 vs Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G - maybe it helps.

Hope I helped!

If you want something great for running games such as Overwatch and newer...

The Acer VX5-591G for $1094 CAD is slightly over but has a GTX 1050. https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-Notebook-i5-7300HQ-Windows-VX5-591G-5652/dp/B01N11JKA3/

Dell Inspiron 7567 would be even better if you're willing to DIY replace the screen, but the low quality TN FHD screen it comes with is pretty bad, and the IPS FHD screen option has only been brought to the US, not Canada.

EDIT: Also I've never seen this similar Acer before, but the specs sound right (IPS display, GTX 1050, SSD), so assuming there are no hidden thermal or battery life issues or something, it could be a contender as well.

I think APU brings very middling experience for both work and gaming. I bought A10 laptop recently but decided to return it becaise it was neither very portable or good for even light gaming. I would suggest something like this: Acer Nitro 5 15.6" Gaming Laptop (i7-7300HQ, 8GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, Windows 10 Home) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B071JLXGCW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_YsByzbEJ6ESAP

How about the [Acer Nitro 5 15.6" Gaming Laptop] (https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-Gaming-Laptop-i5-7300HQ-Windows/dp/B071JLXGCW/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1527163316&sr=1-5&keywords=gaming+laptop) which comes a decent graphics card for video editing and gaming. Lighter games would not be problem on this laptop. Plus it comes with 7 hours battery life. Specs:

  • NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050
  • Intel Core i5-7300HQ
  • Advanced cooling Technology
  • Dolby audio premium
