For those saying this is a crazy setup for a kid:

how expensive do you think those accessories are?

Can confirm— I’m using a keyboard I bought for $40 on Amazon and it’s LIGHT YEARS ahead of my blackwidow ultimate.

If you’re curious, I got this with the black switches and absolutely love it. I thought I only liked blue switches but turns out, nope!

Ajazz AK33 (impressive RGB barf incoming)

bought this one a few weeks ago to replace my WASD keyboard. so far i really like it

You'd be surprised how similar the switch quality is. Apparently, this has to do with the Cherry patent expiring and others can now produce the same type of switches. I haven't confirmed this, I've only read it from a handful of other sources. Anyway, I bet if you looked at a few reviews, you might even change your mind.

Do yourself a favor and YouTube these models:

The other option for monitors is to take a laptop screen and buy a controller based on the model number and then create a low profile bezel / case for it. Horrible instructables example.

I would love to use a 40% but I love my number keys for switching weapons in FPS games.

That Sentraq looks nice though.

I've been looking at this 60% keyboard that's cheap on amazon.

You're not going to get all of that for less than 100. The ajazz rgb has most of that but the switches aren't brand name. https://www.amazon.com/Firstblood-Mechanical-Keyboard-Switches-Backlit/dp/B01JG37496 Also check the wiki. The guide there is pretty detailed.

Not really sure why you're being downvoted for telling him the right model.

Unfortunately, I don't think you'll be able to build your own for under $100. Cost of switches and caps alone will get you close to that point.

You're looking for something that's very specific, so it may be hard to come by. I'd check some of the cheaper gaming brands on Amazon, like Ajazz and stuff like that, and see if you can find something that ticks the boxes you're looking for.

You could always get the Excalibur and then replace the caps down the road, if you don't like the font. I'd recommend a VA68M, as it's the Magicforce 68 layout without the ugly logo, but it's a high-profile case, and not the low-profile "floating" keys that you're looking for.

EDIT: Here's the Ajazz I was talking about.

Check out that key board if you want to actually get a mechanical keyboard and one worth gaming on

Edit: oh wait, linear switches. My bad.

The Ajazz AK33 is quite nice, I have one in my own collection myself.

Do you have to have dedicated media keys? Is the lack of an analog roller a deal breaker? What about a keyboard with layers? Or a macro pad?

Maybe you could get a 60% keyboard and also something like this to have around your desk to control your audio

Or there are keyboard like this that have audio keys in layers, meaning you hold the function key and press the key that has the volume up or next song picture on it

I know neither of these options are exactly what you asked for but just throwing it out there in case you weren’t aware of these options :)
